“Без гри немає і не може бути повноцінного розумового розвитку. Гра – це величезне світле вікно, через яке в духовний світ дитини вливається живлющий потік уявлень, понять про навколишній світ. Гра – це іскра, що запалює вогник допитливості.” В.Сухомлинський

Role playing on English lessons There cannot be a full mental development without the game. The game is a huge bright window through which the spiritual world of the child joins the flow of life-giving ideas, concepts about the world. The game is a spark that lights the flame of curiosity. Role Playing as Simulation /psychological aspect/ Role playing isn't to be viewed as a particularly psychological procedure. Certainly, it has been widely used as a part of many different types of therapy, but this is because it's a natural vehicle for learning. Role playing is simply a less technologically elaborate form of simulations. What astronauts do in their practice for missions; what pilots do in learning to navigate in flight simulators; what thousands of soldiers do in the course of military exercises--it's all role playing. Teaching salespersons to deal with customers, teaching doctors to interview patients, teaching teachers to deal with difficult situations, all these require some measure of actual practice and feedback. Role playing, then, is nothing more than rehearsal. Musicians and football players, actors and firemen, all need to practice their skills. This is because complex operations cannot include all variables in a single lecture or even a thick book. Issues of adapting general principles to one's own set of abilities, temperament, and background; working out the inevitable "bugs" any complex system generates; and preparing for unforseen eventualities--all are frequent goals of this kind of role playing.

Problems with Role Playing Role playing is a technology for intensifying and accelerating learning; it is like electric power tools in relation to carpentry. Teachers have to be well trained and competent, or therapists well-grounded in the various aspects of that role. The most common problem with role playing is that of the leader not appreciating its essential nature. The teacher engaging the students in a "warming-up" process in which they get to know each other in a more trusting fashion and become involved in the theme to be learned. Another problem with role playing arose when teachers gave into their own impulses to "play psychiatrist" and slip from dealing with the group problem to explore some issue to focusing on the real-life personal problems of a given individual. A third problem comes from the common tendency to assume that interpersonal skills are easier than technical skills--though in fact they are even more difficult--and so people tend to think they can engage in directing role playing before they've really achieved a level of bare competence (much less mastery).

Nationality Cards I used this with an English elementary class. Each student gets one card. They have to introduce themselves based on the given information. This could be a way of learning about nationality. You can also encourage your students to give more information, like age, status, and create an address. Have fun!!

Information Cards - Ask and Answer I made these cards for children over the age of 10- 11 years old. It was for conversation lessons, so the students could mix and speak . Each card has information about people. The teacher gives one card to each student, and they go and ask another student about the information on their cards and they answer it. This is to practise questions and answers about names, age, nationality, job and favourite colours, hobby.

The 1st 45-minute-lesson (of 2) on the topic My Favourite Hobbies -- Reading Comprehension for Upper Elementary and Lower intermediate students This is the first of 2 lessons on "My favourite Hobbies"- Series Reading leading to Writing (2 Pages). Reading tasks: After speculating about the text they are going to read (images, key words, parts of the speech...), students scan the text to find information to complete the table. Then, they do a multiple choice exercise and, finally, they ask questions for the answers. They are now ready to do the writing activity in the 2nd lesson. My Favourite Hobbies

Plural Nouns Game This game can help students to remember plural form of some nouns. Cards can be used as a memory game. All cards are face down, 1 player can open only 2 cards at the same time. If the cards are: house-houses (for example), player wins, and continue opening. If the cards are: tooth-ear (for example) player puts the card back face down. Students remember how to read and spell words. First students should find plural & singular form in pairs, then explain the rule.

Movie Worksheet: Planet 51 Complete Beginner In this worksheet you can find warm up questions, so the students can brainstorm before watching the movie, then there is an exercise about matching the script. Afterwards, they can talk about the characters using adjectives. Warm up:  • Would you like to go to another planet? • What would you do if you saw an alien? • Would you like to have an alien friend? After watching the movie, you could ask them to create their own planet, and you can also teach them parts of the body. I hope you have fun!

Going to the Shop A great one for younger learners as it will teach them the basics of interacting with people. Children generally rely on their parents to buy things for them, therefore this will boost their overall general confidence in buying. It can be as simple or as complex as one wishes, depending on the situation. Key phrases are often important here, such as “I would like…” “How much are…” “Good morning…” and so forth.
