About stress
Stress is actually a normal part of our life.
Anybody can suffer from stress.
I believe there are certain jobs that are very stressful, like teachers, doctors, drivers, pilots and policemen.
But probably everyone suffers from stress at some time in their life: students, actors, sportsmen, factory workers – anybody.
There are different factors which can cause stress like a serious disease or the death of someone close, some problems with family or friends.
I can’t but mention that there are lots of reasons for stress among teenagers too.
Apart from the obvious factors teenagers are stressed out by high school demands, negative feelings about themselves, changes in their bodies and, more and more often, by taking on too many activities.
Teenagers are worried about their grades and tests because they don’t want to let their parents down.
Those who are suffering from stress often feel overwhelmed and unable to cope with the reality.
They display great irritability and moodiness, they can’t stay focused, they don’t get enough sleep and feel tired and sleepy.
Very often they eat a lot of junk food and prefer hanging out in their room watching TV to exercising outdoors or talking to friends.
In many cases chronic stress can make teenagers very ill both physically and mentally.
Too much stress leads to anxiety and even aggression.
To my mind young people should know something about stress management.
The best advice is to decrease the so-called self-talk.
Try to tell yourself “My life may be hopeless at the moment but it’ll get better if I work at it” instead of saying “My life is terrible and it’ll never be better”.
I guess it’s easier said than done.
So you must give a thought how to change the way you lead your life.
You should organize your studies and make a list and do all the important things first.
You must follow a sensible diet and exercise regularly.
Finally you can talk to people about your problems: talk to your parents, your close friends or your teachers.
