Objectives: Getting information about London - the capital of the English-speaking country; recapitulation of the lexical units of the topic.
Development of the pupils’ skills of reading, speaking, writing and listening.
Drawing up the pupils’ attention on the places of interest of London; drawing up the pupils’ interest to study English.

London, maps of Great Britain and the world
The type of the lesson: lesson- excursion
I. Introduction
Warming up
Insert imagination. Conversation about the lesson- journey to London by bus.
During the journey the pupils (passengers) will have an entertainment programme in the bus to make the time shorter and more interesting.
ІІ. Reading
1)Read and discuss - What is London? (Ex.l p. 142). Find out and read the English equivalents to the Ukrainian ones: (work with cards)
2) While some pupils work with the cards, others are doing the Ex.2 p. 142.:
answer the questions, looking for answers in the text, (the pupils work in pairs).
2a) Checking up the pupils’ work with the cards.
3) Vocabulary work: “ New Vocabulary” (p. 143)
One pupil will read the word and the other one will show corresponding photo if he/she has such one (or explain their meanings).
III. Speaking
1)Dialogical speech
The dialogue between two drivers
2)Monological speech
2a)The guides tell about main parts of London (using the map-scheme).
2b)Read, look and match the places to the photos. Work with the text “Things to see in London” (Ex.3 p. 142-143), using the photos in the Pupils’ Book p.142.
2c)Telling about the Royal Observatory Greenwich in some more details.
(Using photos, maps of Great Britain and the World).
The Royal Observatory is situated at the Greenwich meridian. The Greenwich meridian is “longitude zero”. There is a brass strip (line) аlong longitude zero. If you stand over this line, you have one foot on each hemisphere. (The guide suggests to stand over it)
(Use the pronoun “we” instead of “they”).
What places haven’t you visited yet? (Ex.4b p.143). Name them from the Ex.5 p. 144.
The pupils also add some more places of interest showing photos and using the map-scheme of London.
IV. Writing
The pupils sum up the results of their excursion. They write down about two places, that they have seen, but don’t name them and give information to another pair. They must say where the first pair have been. (Ex.5p. 144)
1.Marking
– You tried a lot to make our excursion more interesting and you get payment in points for your work.
2. Home task
– Tell your relatives at home and your friends about our excursion about London answering their questions (Ex. 6 p. 144) and write about it to your pen-friends.
