OBJECTIVES:

• To activate pupils’ vocabulary;
• To stimulate creative thinking;
• To develop pupils’ speaking, reading skills.

EQUIPMENT: pictures, tables, a book “We learn English” by A.Nesvit.

THE PROCEDURE OF THE LESSON

1. WARMING UP.

---SHORT CONVERSATION.

Do you do sport?

What’s your favourite sport?

---PHONETIC DRILL. Pupils read the poem.

Sport is fun for girls and boys.

It’s much better than the toys.

You can sledge and ski and skate.

And play snowballs with Kate.

You can swim and play football.

Hockey, tennis, basketball.

You can jump and you can run.

You can have a lot of fun.

2. VOCABULARY WORK.

- Look at the pictures and   name the kinds of sport

--PUT THE WORDS IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER.

a) wrestling, b) fencing, c) basketball, d) boxing, e) tennis, f) golf.

--READ THE SENTENCES AND GUESS THE KINDS OF SPORT.

a) A game for two players. They have rackets. They hit a shuttlecock over a high net. ( Badminton)

b) A game in which you use long sticks called clubs to hit a small ball into holes in grassy land. (Golf)

c) This is an outdoor game for two teams of eleven players. You need a ball, two goals and a referee. (Football)

d) It’s a game in which two teams of five players try to throw a ball into a net basket fixed to a metal ring. The players bounce a ball and pass it to each other.(Basketball)

e) IT’s a game for two players. They have sixteen figures which they move on the board. They must trap the opponent’s king to win. (Chess)

3. LISTENING. Listen to the sentences and agree or disagree with them.

People all over the world are fond of sport and games. Sport helps us to keep fit and healthy. There are summer and winter sports. The most popular winter sports are skating, skiing and hockey. Some people enjoy figure skating and ski- jumping. It’s nice to go to the skating rink or to the forest on a frosty sunny day.

The most popular summer sports are swimming, cycling, yachting. It’s so wonderful to breathe in the fresh air and enjoy watching nature.

Children all over the world like to play indoor and outdoor games. Athletics, aerobics, gymnastics enjoy their great popularity among the girls. Many of them attend the sports clubs and train in the gym. The boys go in for boxing, wrestling, football, tennis, basketball and track and field events.

Everyone must do all he or she can to be healthy and to develop a strong character.” A sound mind in a sound body.” The old Latin proverb says.

5.MEMORY GAME.

Pupils look at 5 pictures on the blackboard trying to remember as much details as possible. Then the pictures are taken off. The teacher asks pupils to describe what the people are doing.
