Compere 1 Dear ladies and gentlemen! We are happy to greet you at our Assembly Hall

Compere 1 This day is like a Milestone.

Compere 2  Milestones  represent progress, growth and achievement.

Compere 1 You’ ll see that the 100th day of school can be a great opportunity for learning and fun.

Compere 2  It  also means that the school year is almost half over. Time to celebrate!

Compere 1  There’s one problem. Why should we do it in English?

Compere 2 Oh! It’s not a problem. The students of our school love English and have a good command of it. So, Don’t worry, Be happy!

Compere 1  Greet our brilliant youngsters  of  the 3rd  A form

                                        Song “Don’t worry, Be happy!”

Compere 1  Once upon a time there was…

 Compere 2   A King.

Compere 1  No, not a king! Once upon a time there was a school! Every year the school  was  getting bigger and better. And the pupils were getting more and more talented.

Compere 2  All pupils of this school like to go to school, like their teachers, like to study different subjects, but best of all, they like English.

Compere 1  It wasn’t so difficult as it may seem because we all have super teachers who can easily turn us into superheroes.

Compere 2  Enjoy the wonderful performance by the superheroes of the 6th formers!

Song “I want something just like this”

Compere 1 You see,  our students  have  a real superpower because they are keen on  reading

Compere 2 This year we celebrate the …..th birthday  of Oscar Wild, the famous Irish writer.

Compere 1 I think there’ s  hardly a person who hasn’ t read  his  fairy tales  “The happy prince” , “The Selfish Giant”, “The star –child”, the novel “The picture of Dorian Gray” and others

Compere 2   Now we invite our audience into the world of theatre and present  Oscar Wild’s story “ The Canterville Ghost

The Canterville Ghost ( 10th form)

Narrator When the American, Mr Otis, bought Canterville Castle, everyone told him that this was very foolish, as the place was haunted. But Mr Otis answered, 'I come from a modern country, where we have everything that money can buy. A few weeks later, on a lovely July evening, Mr Otis, his wife and their children, Virginia and the twins, went down to their new home.

Mr.Ottis  Well….There it is. What do you think?

Oh,  Daddy, I think it’s just beautiful!

Mr.Ottis    This joint is almost 300 years old. It cost me a fortune. Cantervil told me it’s haunted with a ghost. I said “ I’ll buy it too”

Mrs. Ottis   Ha, ha,ha

Mr.Ottis     So, if you hear any noises  at night, don’t worry, it’ only a ghost!

Twins  Ha, ha,ha

Mrs. Umney   Welcome to Canterville castle. I’m Mrs. Umney. At your service. Madam…

Mrs. Ottis              Oh my, quite lovely,Yes,

Twins    Look at this! What is it mum?

Mrs. Ottis              Oh, someone seems to have spilt something here

Mrs. Umney   The truth is. That this is the famous bloodstain

Mrs. Ottis       Oh, how disgusting! I really don’t care to have a bloodstain in my living room. It’s not civilized. You must remove it at once!

Mrs. Umney     I’m afraid, that will not be possible, madam. This is the blood of Lady Eleanore Canterville. She was murdered  right on this spot by her husband Lord Simon Canterville 300 years ago. His Lordship disappeared and his body was never found. But his guilty spirits still haunts this castle.

Mr. Ottis              What seems to be the trouble there?

Mrs. Ottis       The maid says this bloodstain can’t be removed

Mr. Ottis    Don’t be rediculous  ! My Watson’s champion stain remover will take care of it!..( витирає пляму) I tell you, a harmless stain. Ghosts? What silliness!

The next morning the bloodstain appeared  on the floor again

Mrs. Umney   I told you  this bloodstain can’t be removed

Mr. Ottis     Just watch! !..( витирає пляму, грім, служниця зомліла)

Twins 1   Hey  dad, I wanna see aghost

2  And I want my blood to freeze too

Mr. Ottis   Relax , both of you. If there is really a ghost here, I promise  you’ll see it soon

At eleven o'clock the family went to bed and some time after, Mr Otis was awakened by a strange noise

in the corridor, outside his room.

Ghost……( makes noise)

Mr. Ottis   Hey, boy! Put some oil on those chains of yours!

Ghost    Hm?

Mr. Ottis   I said  put some oil on those chains of yours! The noise is keeping  us awake! Take this , it’s only 2.95 a bottle but for you it’s free

Ghost ( angrily throwing a bottle) Well, I never.  A salesman…..They have no respect for  the  deceased. I must show them!

Twins  1 There he is!

             2.  Get him!

Ghost    Booooo!

Twins   Booo yourself, ghosty

Narrator The ghost did not appear for the rest of the week. The only strange thing that happened was the bloodstain, which they found on the floor every morning. Some mornings it was red, then brown or purple, or even green. These changes amused the family very much.

Ghost  What can I do this family is driving me bananas! Me! Sir Simon Canterville! The most famous ghost in Britain! Have I lost my ability to scare people?  ( paints the bloodstain green)  This is so embarrassing….. A green bloodstain!

Virginia    Oh, so that why the paints have been disappearing from my box! You’ve been using them to replace this stupid stain. Why? Why with green paint?

Ghost    You were all out of red paint……and it’s not so easy to get real blood these days

Virginia  Is it true that you  killed your wife right on this spot?

Ghost   'Well, I quite admit it, but my wife was not very nice, you know, and she knew nothing about cookery. However, it is all over now, and I don't think it was very nice of her brothers to starve me to death.'

Virginia  'Starve you to death? Oh, Mr Ghost, I mean Sir Simon, are you hungry? I have a sandwich in my case. Would you like it?'

Ghost 'No, thank you, I never eat anything now; but it is very kind of you. You are much nicer than the rest of your rude, dishonest family.'

Virginia 'Stop!', 'it is you who are rude, and as for dishonesty, you stole the paints out of my box to renew that ridiculous blood-stain in the library.  (Virginia turned around to leave the room.)

Ghost  'Please don't go, Miss Virginia,' 'I am so unhappy  and so tired.' 300 years! 300 years without  sleeping!

Virginia 'Poor, poor Ghost , have you no place where you can sleep?

Ghost  'Well, I know a place where I could sleep – it's the Garden of Death, the churchyard. But only if you pray with me for my soul,  the Angel of Death will have mercy on me.’

Narrator  When Virginia promised to help the ghost and pray for him, he, took her hand and led her across the room. Virginia saw the wall slowly fading away like a mist, and a bitter cold wind was around them.  Then the wall closed behind them, and the chamber was empty.

Mr. Ottis   Good heavens! child, where have you been?'

Virginia  'Papa,' 'I have been with the ghost. He is dead, and you must come and see him. He was really sorry for all that he had done, and he gave me this box of beautiful jewels before he died.

Twins  1. Oh, look, look everybody

              2. Year, look, come here

             1. I can’t believe it

              2. Neither can I

               1. Something strange is happening

               2. Look at the almond tree

              1.  It’s magic. This thing was dead

Virginia   Simon Canterville has found peace at last.   I owe Sir Simon a great deal. He made me see what Life is, and what Death signifies, and why Love is stronger than both.
