Topic: Hobby Houses

Overview: Before the lesson the teacher gives the task to read the text on p. 24.

During the lesson the students get to participate in discussions using different digital tools. After the lesson the learners have to think over the idea of their dream house and choose the proper home assignment.

Aim: to enable the students to develop their speaking skills, talk about the hobbies they have and about the ideal place where they would like to live in.

 Outcomes:

Digital literacy: information literacy and production

Autonomy: the lesson encourages autonomous learning preparing in advance for the lesson and processing all the materials

Time: 35-40 min

Digital tools: ‘Mentimeter’ Jamboard (MIRO), fillout.quizzes,.

Pre-lesson task: to prepare for the lesson they should read the text and be ready to participate in discussions

Procedure:

І.Organizational moment. Greetings. (1 min)

Step 1. Warming-up.  (2 min)

Students have to show their mood with a help of emojis using chat box.

ІІ. Main Part.

Step 2. Conducting a poll using ‘Mentimeter’ https://www.menti.com/alkyajn1f9zh (4 min)

Learners have to choose their favourite hobby and to vote for it individually. (The teacher shares the link in the chat).

 Summarizing of the voting, cooperating students into groups, differentiating the main ones(music, sports, doing with hands).

Step 3. Aim. (7 min)

The teacher demonstrates a video made by a student of this class about his hobby house. Then talks about hobby and introduces the aim of the lesson.

•          How much time do you spend on your hobby?
•          Does your home suit to your hobby? Why yes? Why not?
•          You’ll be able to:

• talk about the hobby houses of your peers and yours as well,
• take part in the post-reading interactive tasks using different digital tools,
• describe the ideal place where you would like to live in.  ???

Step 4. Speaking Practice. (20 min)

1). Post - reading of the home text. Work in the breakout rooms. (7 min)

Teacher gives the instructions to get students collaborating in breakout rooms using Jamboard. And pays pupils’ attention to BE READY TO TAKE A QUIZ ON OPPOSITE TEAM after collaboration.

 Group 1,2,3 will present their idea of an ideal house

2). Discussion with the whole class (4 min)

Teacher gives the instructions engaging the learners into doing a quiz. The members of each team has got its own quiz accordingly to the team’s number.

4). Making conclusions (3 min)

 -  Which house in the lesson do you like and why? What is your dream house?

Step 5. Home Assignments. (3 min)

Teacher gives instructions and gives the students a couple of tasks. Students have to make choice and do one of them.

•          Make a video or a presentation about your own hobby house using digital tools ( )
•          Create imaginary hobby house which you’d like to have.

 Be ready to present it during the next class.

Step 6. Summarizing. Putting the marks. (3 min)
