Хід уроку
T.: Good morning, dear children! Good morning, dear guests. Today we are going to have an unusual meeting. I invite you to take part in a scientific conference “Natural Disasters”. During our lesson, we’ll try to speak about different disasters, try to understand their different phenomena, try to discuss the relationships between people and nature. And of course, we’ll try to give reasons of their occurrence and think about the way out.
The motto of our lesson will be “Look after this planet, it’s the only one we have” (Prince Philip of Britain).
T.: I’d like to create a warm and friendly atmosphere. It is the basis of a good discussion. Look at the rays of our smiling sun. (app. №1). You can see warm massages. Choose the one you like. Wish something pleasant to your classmates. Let’s start “a wish chain”.

Some of these happen very often, but some of them are a big shock. How do these natural disasters affect humans? Can we do anything about them? The agenda of our scientific conference will be the next.
The chairman asks pupils to make their reports about different kinds of natural disasters.
2. Listening and watching film. “Can animals predict Natural Disasters?”
T.: Thank you, dear reporters about your interesting information. And now you’ll watch a film how can animals predict Natural disasters. After watching it you’ll try to correct the mistakes: decide which sentences are true and which are false and then answer the questions on this text.

1. How many people were killed by tsunami in Southern Asia in 2004? (more than 200 0000).
2. What animals were mentioned in the film?
3. The American survey says that there is no connection between animals’ behaviour and natural disasters, isn’t there?
4. How can they predict the disasters?
5. Why do fish swim in deeper waters?
6. What did happen in China in 1975?
7. What is the use of monitoring the animals’ behaviour?
3. Listening and watching the film “Europe’s deadly cold…”
T.: And here is one more report about natural disaster. Listen and watch it attentively and then we’ll discuss this information. Present your ideas according to the colour of your “thinking hat” (after Edward de Bono)
Here are the instructions:
4. Pair work. Reading and acting the dialogue about tropical storms .
T.: Read the paragraphs and refer them to the questions. Act out the interview in pairs.
5. Reading and grammar training.
Read the article “Weather Safety”. Some words are missing from the text. Choose the most appropriate answer from the options (a, b, c, d) for each gap (1-12) in the text.
T.: Give some pieces of advice how to be safe in lightning.
