Слухання

Listen to the text and answer the following questions:

1.What are the best-paid jobs?

2.Who receives the lowest pay?

3.Is there the difference in pay between men and women?

4.What are the major differences between four countries?

Woman : Hello and welcome to Jobwatch. A survey by the European Union of salaries in four member countries was published yesterday. This is the first major study since 1978 and it looks at salaries in Sweden, Spain, France and the United Kingdom. Data about other member countries will be available shortly.

The best-paid jobs in all of the four countries are those held by managers, basically those people holding positions of responsibility in business. Managers on average earn a lot more than the next group , professionals. Professionals include doctors, lawyers and teachers.

The lowest pay is received by workers in hotels and restaurants, especially in the United Kingdom. After that come manual workers in agriculture, construction, etc. The next worst-paid group of workers are those who operate machinery or work in factories.

One important finding is that there is still a big difference in pay between men and women. Women receive between 13 and 25% less than men, for doing exactly the same jobs. Women managers do particularly badly , receiving only two thirds of the pay of their male colleagues. Younger women and women in low-paid jobs are closer to being equal to men.

There are also major differences between the four countries. Sweden has the highest average earnings but French managers and professionals earn more than in the other three countries. The lowest wages are in Spain, followed by the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom is the country with the biggest pay gap between men and women. France is the country with the biggest difference between high- and low-paid workers.

Творче завдання

T: Imagine you are adults and do different jobs. You are representatives of different professions. You are flying in a balloon over the sea. And the balloon is slowly drifting towards the sea. It can carry only one person whose profession is the most important.. Others have to jump out of the balloon. So just one can survive. You must persuade  that your profession is more important than others.’ The rest of the class must save all the people proving the importance of all professions.

5 pupils in turn tell about the importance of their jobs

. The rest of the class discuss the problem how to save all people in the balloon, they prove that all professions are important.

We’ve spoken a lot about different professions. What do you want to be when you grow up?

Students tell about what they want to be in future.

My Future Profession

There are many interesting professions. I want to be a doctor. It is an interesting profession. I understand that it is necessary to study a lot to become a doctor. I also understand that this profession requires great responsibility because it deals with the most precious thing that a person has — with his health. if your health is good, you are always in good mood. It is very important for everybody. Doctor is always kind and attentive to his patients. People feel that and trust him. I want to become a doctor as well. I'll do my best to help people who have problems with their health

I want to be a nurse. As a nurse, I will be able to use my profession anywhere in the world. I can work with many people every day, both patients and staff. Furthermore, nursing will allow me the flexibility to have a family.

I want suffering patients to feel the comfort of a compassionate presence. If they need to talk to someone, I want to be able to help them think of the things that bring meaning to their lives.

Fighter.I want to be a fire fighter because I want to save people’s lives. Firefighters have to be brave and strong as their work is dangerous. I work out twice a week at the gym because I want to be ready to pass the entry test.

I decided to be a journalist. I think it is an interesting and useful profession. I like to watch TV, listen to the radio, read newspapers and magazines. I like everything which connected with mass media. I have a hobby. My friends and I are publishing a small newspaper once a month in our school. We write articles about school events, life of young people, jokes, draw pictures and caricatures. My favourite school subjects are history and literature. I like the profession of a journalist. They meet many people. They try to understand what is going on in the world, or the country, or the city and try to explain it to other people. I think that the work of a journalist is very much like that of a historian. A historian studies and tries to explain events of the past and a journalist do the same about the present. But for me to be a journalist is much more interesting than to be a historian because you deal with real events that are happening right now so you can even influence them. So journalists can influence the history. That is why I want to be a journalist.

I wanted and still want to be a singer. It was my wish since my childhood .When I was a kid, I often imagined myself on the stage singing and dancing .My parents understood that it `s not only a hobby, but also my dream and allowed me to study at musical school .Now , I study a lot of songs at  school, and who knows, maybe someday I `ll become famous singer .I can `t live without music, with the help of music I express my emotions and get rid of my troubles .If I were a singer I would change peoples mind , would make them more kind with the help of my songs. I dream to become a singer and get acquainted with musical producers or people from the world of show business, who can help me to become a star.
