Stage Setup: Dim lights, Halloween decorations (cobwebs, bats). Kids sit in a circle around the unlit pumpkin and campfire. Audience encouraged to react (laugh, gasp).

Kid 1 (Witch): (Excited, to audience) Hi, friends! Happy Halloween! We're sitting around this spooky pumpkin, ready for fun. Who loves scary stories? Shout "Boo!" if you do! (Pause for audience: "Boo!") Yay! Let's tell spooky stories!

Kid 2 (Ghost): (Whispering dramatically) Ooooh, I have a joke! Why did the ghost go to school? To learn his ABC-boo's! (All laugh. Joke: "Boo-hoo, that's funny!")

Kid 3 (Vampire): My turn! What do vampires learn in school? Fang-uage! (All giggle. To audience: "What's your spooky joke? Shout it!") (Pause for 1-2 shouts.)

Narrator (Kid 1, as Witch): (Dramatically, waving wand) Long ago in old Ireland, on a chilly night, the wind howled through the trees. In a small village lived Jack—a teenage boy with sharp eyes and a quick mind. But he was stingy! He never shared his apples or coins. One stormy evening, after trading at the market, Jack sat by a fire, bored. "Why pay for everything?" he grumbled with a sneaky grin. Suddenly, a strange figure appeared—the Devil, with red eyes and a sly smile! Jack thought, "A challenge! Let's outsmart him." "Hey, Devil, join me for a drink—a mug of cider!" Jack said with a wink. The Devil, curious, agreed.

[Enter Stingy Jack and Devil. They "sit" at a table prop, pretending to drink.]

Stingy Jack: (Rubbing hands, lively) Ha! This cider's good, but I won't pay! Devil, turn into a coin so we can buy more! (Winks at audience with cheeky smile.)

Devil: (Amused, dramatic pose) Okay, you clever boy! (Pretends to shrink into a coin prop. Jack "pockets" it with a cross prop, gazing slyly.)

Stingy Jack: (Laughing, lively) Got you! You're trapped by this cross! Let me go free forever, or stay a coin! (Humor: "Look, Devil, you're my lucky penny now!")

Devil: (Stuck, comically angry, shaking fists) You tricked me? That's not fair! Fine, I promise—no soul for you! But you'll pay later! (Audience: "Boo!" for Devil.)

Narrator (Kid 1): Years later, Jack grew older, still hoarding treasures. One day, he died. His spirit floated to Heaven’s gates... (Dramatic music swells.)

[Angels (Kids 2 and 3) enter with wings, gazing sadly.]

Angel 1 (Kid 2): (Shaking head, dramatic) Jack, you were too greedy and pitiful! No place here—go away!

Stingy Jack: (Pitiful face, begging on knees) But I have coins! Please! (Humor: "Look, angels, I saved them all—just for Heaven's piggy bank!")

Angel 2 (Kid 3): (Laughing softly) No, Jack. You're too mean! (Angels "close" gates with arms. Jack looks sad like a puppy.)

Narrator (Kid 1): Embarrassed, Jack turned to Hell...

[Devil and Helper (Kids 3 and 4) enter with horns, gazing wickedly.]

Devil: (Roaring dramatically, pointing finger) Oh, Jack! You tricked me twice! No way you're staying! Wander forever! (Throws fake coal. Jack catches it.)

Stingy Jack: (Cunning wink, lively) Give me a light, and I'll leave quietly! (Humor: "Devil, you're stingier than me—no fire for free?")

Devil: (Mocking laugh) Take this coal! (Jack "carves" turnip prop with scary face, puts coal in.)

Jack's Ghost (Jack actor, now wandering with lantern): Oh no! I'm stuck! (Wanders dramatically: "Boo-hoo! Where's my home?") (Humor: "At least my lantern's brighter than the Devil's bad jokes!")

Narrator (Kid 1): Jack became a ghost with his lantern. People carved scary lanterns to scare him away. In America, they used pumpkins—bigger and funnier! That's the Jack-o'-lantern!

[Ending Scene: 3 min. Music stops. Lights brighten. Play ends with applause. All kids return to circle.]

Kid 4 (Zombie): Wow, spooky but funny! Now we know!

Kid 1 (Witch): Yes! Let's light our Jack-o'-lantern! (They “light” the pumpkin with LED candle. Glow shines. To audience: "What do you think? Scary or fun? Shout!")
