Topic: Extracurricular activity (lesson-quiz) in English for 6th grade on the topic "The Smartest"

The choice of topic, forms of selection of material for extracurricular activities in English are determined by the relevance and place in the system of English lessons.
Number of students who took part in the event: 14.
Purpose: to practice phonetic skills; learn to understand a foreign language in game situations; control students' language skills and abilities; to control the level of assimilation of these topics by students; to develop the ability to apply the studied lexical units and grammatical rules in a specific situation; to develop guesswork; instill interest in the culture, history, traditions of English-speaking countries; to cultivate the ability to work in a team .
Equipments: blanks with tasks and options for answering test tasks; 2 sets of playing cards.
The educational event consisted of three stages: organizational, where students were informed about the theme and purpose of the event and the basic rules of the event; stage of the quiz (this stage included 6 competitions, the rules of which were announced by the trainee); the final team, where the points were counted, announced the winning team.

Dear Friends! We are very glad to see you here. Glad to meet you, dear boys and girls. Today we are having a competition, an English quiz and each of you will take part in it as a member of one team or fans. We will not read texts or learn dialogues. We were busy doing all that at the previous lessons. Today we will play. Today we are going to have a kind of intellectual game between two teams. We hope it'll be rather interesting for you and you'll have a good time. So, be attentive, listen to all the questions and try to give answers. We wish you good luck and hope for your active participation. And whatever team is the first, the main winner, of course, will be friendship. Yes, you'll have to work together to make the common decision and it's possible only when you are united, when you are real friends.

• There is a holiday for children in England in autumn. It is on the 31st of October. It is the night for ghosts and witches. (Halloween).
7. Now I’ll ask you the captains of both teams. The last task is for you. Imagine that you are the guide in London. Tell your group about one of the famous places of interest in London. For this task I’ll give you 10 points. When everything will be correct.

At the end of the event, the results were summed up and medals were awarded to the participants. The lesson used techniques, methods of collective and group work with students. The combination of these methods of techniques allowed for covert control of the development of speech skills and to see the assimilation by students of previously passed material.
