As you know young people have their own views and problems. To my mind, the biggest youth problems today are generation gap, bad habits, earning money, crime and, of course, spending free time. Young people are the future of the world that is why it’s very important for them to show their own active position.

Today young people try to take an active part in social life. They join different clubs, groups or societies. All these organizations help them to make new friends, work as a team, find things they are interested in and do some public work.

The largest youth organization is the Scout Movement.  Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell was the founder of this movement. In 1907 he organized troops of Boy Scouts and later on troops of Campfire Girls. Nowadays even in Ukraine there are followers of this movement. The membership of this organization is voluntary. Young people develop such skills as honesty, obedience and kindness. 

In Ukraine the biggest youth organization is Plast. It is based on the principles of the Boy and Girl Scout movement. Plast in Ukraine came into being in the city of Lviv in 1911. It was founded by Olexandr  Tysovsky, Ivan Chmola, who were the teachers, and Petro Franko, a researcher. The name PLAST was taken from the Cossack word “plastun” – “scout” which was used in the 17^th century to define Cossack troops involved in scouting. Plast members are expected to be responsible, tolerant, understanding, ready to help others, patriotic, respectful of Ukrainian culture and traditions, aware of the environment problems and optimistic. Plast members have a wide selection of activities to choose from – dancing, cooking, painting, astronomy, first aid, computer science, bicycling and many others.
