Learning Objectives:

By the end of the lesson the students will have been able to:

•     give an extended description of people, places and experiences

•     assess other students speaking

 

Materials Needed

     •   Set of speaking phrases

     •   Photos

     •   Focus 2 Class Audio

     •    Focus 2 Students` Book

 

 

 Presentation

Procedure

I Introduction

Teacher: Good morning, today we’re going to speak about something interesting. Look at the picture and guess what topic we are going to discuss today.

 The teacher shows the picture which is half covered. Students try to guess the topic.

 

II Warming-up

Teacher: Watch a video and answer the questions: Have they done anything interesting?

What was it?

Teacher: Ask your classmate:

Have you done anything interesting in your city recently?

What was it?
Do you usually take photos when you visit interesting places?

 Teacher: Write as many words  and phrases as you can remember connected with the topic “Describing a photo”. You have one minute.

 In one minute time the teacher asks his students to count the words. The winner reads the words from his list, and then other students read the

words which haven` t been mentioned before.

III Main part

1. Vocabulary practice

Teacher: We have mentioned a lot of words connected with the topic “Describing a photo”. Look at some more words and phrases.

 

 

SPEAKING FOCUS

Beginning a description

There are … so I think they’re in a street/in an art gallery/

 Teacher divides students into groups.

 Teacher:  We’re going to work in groups. The task is to add  more phrases to each group. You have 1 minute. Let’s start.

 Every group is given cards with phrases

 

 

 

 

 Students do ex 2 p 39 SB in the form of a game HELP YOUR CLASSMATE. Students change their places and do the exercise in their mates’ textbooks.                                               

Teacher:   Now let’s  listen and check it.

Students listen to the recording and check the exercise.

Ex 2 p 39 sb.

1 In this photo I can see a street artist drawing a portrait on

the pavement. 2 In the background there are some people

watching him. They’re wearing shorts and T-shirts, so

3 I think it’s summer. The street is quite crowded, so

perhaps this is a tourist area. The street artist has got dark

hair and he’s wearing jeans and a bright green T-shirt.

4 He looks quite young. 5 Next to him

is a picture and he’s copying it. 6 In my opinion he’s

a very good artist. 7 I imagine he’s going to collect

money from the people who are watching him.

I think he’s done a good job

2.Listening

Teacher:

Listen to model description of photos A and B and note as many details as you can.

3. Speaking

Teacher: Use your notes  and phrases of the lesson to describe the photo you see. You have three minutes.

 In three minute time the studentsdescribe the photo given.

IV Home assignment

 Describe a photo using the phrases of the lesson and ex  4 p 42 sb as an example

V Summing-up

Teacher: Let’s sum up the results of the lesson.

What have we learnt today?

 Teacher analyses the students’ work at the lesson and gives marks.
