Урок – бесіда “за круглим столом”

Тема: Лондон –столиця Англії

Мета: Практикувати учнів в діалогічному та монологічному   

мовленні, в аудіюванні;активізувати вживання в мовленні   Present Perfect;розвивати логічне мислен-

ня і комунікабельність;виховувати повагу до культурних

надбань,традицій англійського народу.

Обладнання:карта Лондона,роздатковий матеріал,малюнки визначних місць Лондона,презентація.

Оформлення класу:парти розставлені у вигляді круглого столу.

 Хід уроку

1.Introduction

Greeting:Good morning!How are you today?

Warming up:Teacher Dear boys and girls,try to forget that we are at the lesson.Today we are going to have a friendly talk about London.We have talked a lot about London.We have talked a lot about the capital of England at our lessons, and now I want you to exchange your impressions about London.Lets start our talk.Who would like to tell us about the capital of  England?

2.Main part of the lesson

Speaking:

P1:Everybody knows that London is the capital of Great Britain.It lies on both banks of the river Thames.London is the largest city in Europe and one of the largest cities in the wotld.

T:You may not agree or disagree with me but I think London is not the largest city Europe.

P2:You are mistaken.London is the largest city in Europe because more than eight million people live there.

T: Maybe you are right.What else can you say about London?

P3: I wish to add a few words.As far as I know London is not only the capital of the country, it is also a very big port,one of the greatest commercial centres in the world, a university city and the seat of the government of Great Britain.

T: As for me I remember London consists of four parts.Do you know that?

P(Vitaly):Certainly,I know.The most important parts of London are the City,the West End,the East End and Westminster.

T: It seems to me that the City is the largest part of London.

P4: You are wrong.The City is the smallest part of London but is very important. It is the heart of business and financial life of the country.Most of  London’s banks and offices are in this part of the country.

T: And what can you say about the West End?

P5: The West End is the richest part of London.You can find the best shops,restaurants, theatres,cinemas,museums,fine parks and squares.The rich people live in the West End.

T: Would you like to tell which part of London is the administrative centre?

P: Its Westminster.The Houses of Parliament are there.

T: They say that The East End is an industrial district of the capital. Is it really so ?

P: There are many plants and factories there.Working people live there.

T: Vitaly, as far as I know your friend has been to London.Am I right?

P(Vitaly):You are right.My friend Olya was in London during her summer holidays.

T: Would you like to phone Olya and ask her to come to school and tell us about London?

P(Vitaly): It’s a good idea.I’lldo it with great pleasure.

Dialogue ‘Talking on the phone’(invitation to come to the school):

-Hello,Olya!

-Hello,who is speaking?

-This is Vitaly.Do you remember me?

-Certainly.How are you?I haven’t seen you for ages!

-I’m well.Thank you.

Was your trip to London pleasant?

-Oh,I’ve got a lot of impressions there.If you are free today we’ll meet and I’ll tell you everything.

-I’m sorry but I’d like to ask you to come to our school and tell my classmates about your trip to London.

-O.K.

-Could you come today?

-Sure.What time?

-At 11.

-All right.It suits me perfectly.Bye for now.

Questions:

T: Boys and girls, you know that Olya had been to London and now she is ready to answer youe questions.You may ask Olya any questions you like to get more information about London.

-Did you go on excursion about London?

-Yes,I did.I was in London for two weeks and almost every day I went on excursion about London by bus.

-Which of four parts of London is the best?

-To my mind ,the West End is.I saw the Houses of Parliament,Westminster Abbey,Big Ben,Buckingham Palace.I’ve got a lot of impressons there.I’ll never forget my travelling to London.

T :Thank you,Olya.

Excursion to London:

T: Imagine you are a guide with a tourist group in London.You take the group to some place of interest and tell them everything you know about it.Who would like to be the guide?And you,dear tourist,what place of interest would you like to visit?

Guide:In front of you is Buckingham Palace.It is the British queen’s main residence in London.It is very beautiful building.There are 600 rooms in it.

T: Does anybody of you have a question to the guide?

-Can the tourists come to the Palace and see the interior?

Guide :I’m sorry, but they can’t.The interior and the gardens are never open to the public except for those who are invited to parties or the ceremonies.

-It is interesting for me to know why many tourists come to the Buckingham Palace.

Guide: I think its because of the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace.It starts at 11:30 and last for half an hour.The troops wear their traditional clothes. Look here,please. You can see the Palace of Parliament.It is a magnificent building with two towers and a very big clock Big Ben. Big Ben is the symbol of London.

-Can you tell why the clock is called Big Ben?

-Guide: The English people built the tower with the clockin 1858.The man in charge of the building was Sir Benjamin Hall.He was very tall and workers and his friends called him Big Ben.Later on they called tower Big Ben too.

-Could you tell us much about the clock tower weight?

- Guide: It weights 13.5 tons.

 Close to the Houses of Parliament stands Westminster Abbey.It is very beautiful church ,built over 900 years ago.Nearly all the kings and queens of were crowned and burried there.Many great English scientists lie buried there,among them Newton,Darvin.

Writing(Using Present Pеrfect):

T: Imagine that you are in London. You have seen a lot of places of interest there.You’ve  got a lot of impressions in London.Write about it in your post cards and send them to your friends.

I’m in London now.It’s a very beautiful city.I have seen many places of interest there.Big Ben is wonderful.It’s the symbol of London.
