Objective: To study English through the implementation of STEM technologies and to deepen knowledge about London.

 

Duration: 45 minutes

Goals:

 

To familiarize students with the main landmarks and architecture of London.

To develop teamwork skills and utilize STEM technologies for exploration.

To enhance vocabulary and its practical application.

Lesson Procedure:

 

1. Introduction (5 minutes)

 

Greeting the class.

Explanation of the lesson topic.

Good morning/afternoon, class! Today, we're going to embark on an exciting journey to explore the iconic landmarks of London while also incorporating STEM technologies into our language learning. By utilizing tools like the internet, smartphones, and tablets, we'll delve deeper into our study of English and discover fascinating facts about London's architecture and history. STEM technologies offer us unique opportunities to engage with the language in a dynamic and interactive way, making our learning experience more immersive and enjoyable. So, let's get ready to dive into the world of English and London landmarks together!"

2. Explanation and Discussion (10 minutes)

 

  1. Discussion of the major architectural landmarks of London, such as Big Ben, the London Eye, Tower Bridge, etc.
  2. What do you know about Big Ben? Can you describe its appearance and its significance to London?
  3. Have you ever visited or seen pictures of the London Eye? What makes it such an iconic landmark?
  4. Tower Bridge is one of the most recognizable symbols of London. What architectural features make it unique? How does it contribute to the city's skyline?
  5. Can you name any other famous landmarks in London? What do you find interesting or noteworthy about them?
  6. How do these landmarks reflect the history and culture of London? In what ways do they represent the city's identity?
  7. Why do you think tourists are drawn to these landmarks? What experiences or impressions do they hope to gain from visiting them?
  8. How has technology played a role in preserving and promoting these architectural wonders? Can you think of any examples where technology has enhanced the visitor experience or facilitated learning about these landmarks?

3. Group Work (15 minutes)

 

Dividing students into groups of 3-4 individuals.

Assigning each group to research one landmark of London.

Utilizing modern STEM technologies (internet, smartphones, tablets) to gather information and prepare presentations.

4. Presentation (10 minutes)

 

Each group presents their research findings about the assigned landmark of London. They do it using different platforms-Google Slides або Microsoft PowerPoint, Prezi, Canva or Padlet.

Other students listen to the presentations and ask questions.

5. Conclusion (5 minutes)

 

Recap of the lesson.

Sharing impressions and learned facts about London.

Hometask- one to choose from

  1. Writing assignment: write a short article or report about their experience of learning English through exploring London. You can share your impressions of the lesson, reflect on what impressed or interested you.

 

  1. Creating a multimedia presentation: students prepare a multimedia presentation on the topic "My trip to London". You can use your knowledge and impressions from the lesson, add images, videos and other multimedia materials to tell about your imaginary travels to this city.

 

  1. Virtual tour: Create a virtual tour of London using Google Earth or similar services. You can prepare a route, select interesting sights to visit, and provide a brief description of each place.
