Theme: Great Britain in Brief (slide №1)

Objectives: (slide №2)

•                 To broaden students’ knowledge of the topic;
•                 To develop students’ skills of informative reading and listening;
•                 To provide opportunities for developing learners’ speaking skills;
•                 To acquaint students with new words on the theme;
•                 To develop students’ listening, communicative and writing skills;
•                 To concentrate their attention on the topic;
•                 To develop their logical thinking;
•                 To promote their curiosity.

Equipment: a computer, multimedia – projector, interactive board, an English book, handouts.

Procedure

1. Greetings

•                 Good morning boys and girls!
•                 Good morning teacher!
•                 Nice to meet you!
•                 Nice to meet you too!
•                 Sit down, please!

2. Warming – up (slide №3)

Well, let’s start our lesson from Tongue Twisters:

A twister of twists,

Once twisted a twist,

And the twist that he twisted,

Was a three – twisted twist.

3. Main part

Today I suggest you travelling around Britain. (slide №4, audio file №1)

Before we start our travelling I want you to try the quiz.

1.               The English – Speaking World Quiz. (slide №5, 6, 7)
2.               Look at video, remember, think about, keep in mind and answer the questions: So, students Great Britain consists of three parts England, Scotland and Wales.

Each part has its own capitals, flags, anthems, emblems and of course, traditions. (slide №8, video file №1)

3.               Read the story “The Scottish Thistle” and then do some tasks: (slide №9, 10, 11)
4.               Fill in this factfile about Scotland. (slide №12)
5.               Choose the correct variant. (slide №13)
6.               Translate into Ukrainian. (slide №14)
7.               Answer the questions. (slide №15)
8.               Let’s have a rest. So, students, let’s dance our continental drift Video. (slide №16, video file №2)
9.               And now, let’s read the UK Basic facts. (slide №17, 18, 19)
10.          Listen to national anthem of Britain. (slide №20, 21, audio file №2)
