Language workshop Побувавши в Англії я пройнялася любов’ю до англійських будинків. Для британців їхні оселі вважаються їхніми фортецями. І це дійсно правда. В цьому я переконалася остаточно.                                              

                                                 HOMES

Мета: Практична. Навчити описувати будинок, активізуючи вживання ЛО в   мовленні учнів, формувати вміння монологічного висловлювання.                   - Розвивати навички читання, діалогічного мовлення, вміння аудіювати відео та аудіо текст, ігноруючи незнайомі слова.                                                          Освітня. Поглибити знання учнів про різні види будинків.                               Розвиваюча. Розвивати мовну здогадку та мовленнєву реакцію учнів.              – Розширити уявлення учнів про помешкання англійців.                              Виховна. Прищеплювати любов до рідної домівки, нашої Батьківщини, пам’ятаючи прислів’я  There is no Place Like Home (Нема місця кращого за     дім).

                                               PROCEDURE

I. INTRODUCTION

T: Good morning! Glad to see you! Do you feel special today? So many guests have come to watch you, to listen to your thoughts, ideas, your understanding of the world.  

 

II. WARMING-UP

Our planet is big. A lot of people live on the Earth. They live in different places: cities and towns, settlements and villages. People can live in the jungle and in the desert, in the mountains and in the forests. Where else can people live in?              P1: People can live in the houses.                                                                                                                P2: People can live in the flats.

T: What are we going to talk about? Look at these pictures and this word. It has got red letters. These letters are scrambled. You’ll get a word connected with our topic. P3:                                                                                                                                   T: Do you live in a flat or in a private house?                                                               P4: I live in a …                                                                                                            T: How many rooms are there in your flat/house? What are they?                                        P5: There are … rooms in my flat/house: a living room, a bedroom, a children’s room, a kitchen and a large hall.

 III. MAIN PART

1.LEAD-IN

T: We’ve come to the topic of our lesson.                                                                         Тема: Homes of the past.                                                                                                        T: People live in different types of houses. What types of houses do they live?               P1: People live in detached and semi-detached houses.                                                        P2: People live in mansions and cottages, castles and palaces.                                                                             P3: They live in bungalows, studios and terraced houses.

T: Add two more words to the spidergram. What type of house do you live in?                P4: I live in a bungalow.           P5: I live in a cottage.         P6: I live in a flat. 

T: Match the opposites. 2. LISTENING AND WATCHING VIDEO

T: Do you think these types of houses are popular in the UK? Do the British live in  flats or in houses? What kind of rooms do they usually have upstairs?

3.  ROLE  PLAY (дизайнери та архітектори будівельних компаній виграють тендер).   T: You are designers and architects of two famous building companies. You must win a tender. If you know different types of houses better, your company will win a tender. 1st group - you take left side words, 2nd group – right side words. На дошці представлені фото різних видів будинків та опис кожного з них. Завдання: вибрати правильне значення. 

4. READING                                                                     

Pre-reading activity                                                                                                T: In pairs make a list of ten words related to houses you expect to read in the texts. Write the words on the board. P1/P2/P3: Large, garden, roof, chimney, window, attic, floors, rooms, furniture, carpet (door).                                                                                  T: What are the texts about? Which country are these houses in?                            P4: This text is about different types of houses in Britain.                                                                           Post-reading

Read the statements below. Decide if you agree or disagree with them.

1. The early Victorians liked small houses.                                                                  2. Wealthy people used to live in large detached houses with lots of rooms and cheap furniture. 3. Servants used to live on the top floor of the house or the attic.             4. Elizabethan manor houses often had an E-shape to show respect for a queen.

Let’s sing a song just to relax with elements of physical exercises.

7. SPEAKING

Name 6 things the singer can do in her room?                                                                    P1: She can talk with her friends and sit there alone.                                                        P2: She can lie in her bed and read all day long.                                                       P3: She can put on some music and sing a nice song.                                                    P4: She can study or relax in her room.

What proverbs and quotations about home do you know?                                         P1: An Englishman’s home is his castle. My home is my castle.                                   P2: There is no place like home.                                                                                         P3: Home is where the heart is.                                                                                          P4: Home, sweet home.              P5: East or West, home is best.                                    P6: A house is made of walls and beams. A home is built with love and dreams.

T: Now, children, will you tell us about your homes and your favourite rooms.   P1: My house is wonderful. There is a playground and a garden near my house.      I have got three rooms: a living room, a bedroom, a games room, a kitchen and      a bathroom. In my room there are beautiful curtains, a bed, a computer and a TV. This is my home. My home is my castle.

P2: I have got my own room. There is a table, a lamp, a wardrobe, a carpet and a bed in my room. My room is light and cosy. It is the best place in the world. I like my room very much.

P3: I have got a room in Japanese style. The room has a large window. Next to the window there is my bed. The wallpapers of the room are blue. I adore my room.

P4: My bedroom is my favourite room in the house. It has big windows and lovely curtains. I have got a bed, a chest of drawers, a mirror and a wardrobe in the room. It is not large, but it’s very beautiful.

P5: I can’t imagine my house without our kitchen. It has got a fridge, a cooker, a cupboard and all electric appliances. The fridge is my friend, especially on holidays when there is a lot of food there. Our kitchen is the warmest place in the house. 

8. CROSSWORD

9. T: Not long ago you read an advertisement “House for Sale”, but you don’t remember necessary information . Will you ask agents of the firm “Family Comfort” and they’ll answer your questions.

P1: Where is the house situated?

 A: The house is situated closed to the centre of London.

P2: How much does it cost?   A: It costs 600,000 pounds.

P3: How many rooms are there in the house?   A: There are 7 rooms in the house:   a living room, a dining room, 5 bedrooms, a kitchen and three bathrooms.

P4: Is there a garden near the house?   A: There is a large garden near the house.

P5: What is the telephone number?   A: Our contact number is 0967 987 4576.
