Тема: Музика. Стилі музики.

Мета: Активізувати знання учнів у вживанні лексики в діалогічному та

монологічному мовленні. Навчати учнів вести бесіду та спілкуватися англійською мовою. Формувати навики пошукового читання тексту. Стимулювати мовну активність з використанням гри. Сприяти формуванню в учнів вміння працювати самостійно, в парах, групах. Розвивати навики аудіювання, логічного мислення, та творчих здібностей.

      Виховувати загальну культуру учнів, культуру праці та спілкування на уроці, доброзичливість; розвивати естетичні смаки. Розширювати та поглиблювати знання учнів про музику, музичні стилі.

Обладнання: мультимедійна дошка, проектор, магнітофон, картки з  

                         завданнями, кросворд.

 

Хід уроку.

 

I. Підготовка до сприйняття іншомовного мовлення.

        1. Introduction.

- Good morning to everybody! I’m very glad to greet you and our guests in this room.

- How are you? (We are happy. We are fine. How are you?)

- I’m fine too. I’m very glad to see that all of you are healthy and happy.

-So, Welcome to our lesson!

2. Aim.

-I think that you’ve noticed our topic on the screen. What is it? Read it aloud, please!

-Now pay attention to our objectives!

-Objectives of our lesson are:

  • to practice  in using  our topical vocabulary.
  • to develop four types of languages skills(reading, writing, speaking, listening);
  • to sing a song;
  • to develop the grammar comprehension.

- Today we’ll practice in using our topical vocabulary. We’ll develop four types of languages skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening); and to develop the grammar comprehension. We’ll sing a song.

- Today, we are going to talk about different musical styles; to share our opinions about music and its role in our lives. And one more thing that is worth your special attention!

- By the end of our lesson be ready to comment on the key-question to all our work “What is music?”

        3. Warming-up (crossword)

  1. Let’s name nouns or verbs associated with these kinds of instruments.

  b) Poem’s writing.

  1. So, you like music, don’t you?

Brainstorm some adjectives that come to your mind when you listen to the music you like. And in four minutes make up the poems about music using some methods

II. Основна частина уроку.

1. Listening

-We are unhappy and unhealthy without music. The psychologists believe that music can be divided into three categories.

-Do you agree with them? What are they?

    P1: Yes, we do. The first is low-energy music; the sort that makes you feels bad.

    P2: The next category is high-energy music. It makes you feel better.

    P3: I think Prayerful music is the next category. This king of music is the most

          healing of all.

-O.K. You are right. So, psychologists divide music into categories. But musicians speak about different styles of music.

  • -Your next task is to listen to the six pieces of music and identify each type. Work in pairs.

(Pupils listen to jazz, rock’n’roll, classical, rap, dance, folk), (Ex.3, p.70)

-What other kinds of music do you know? Name them.

4. Time for rest.

- You may have heard “I’m tired of life” If you are tired of life you could listen to music. If you are tired of music you aren’t laughing. Now I think that you are really tired after such work. So, let’s have a rest. Let’s see the cartoon and sing the song about smile. I’m sure you like it. Listen to the melody and try to sing nicely as you can.

4. Oral Practice. Speaking (Speaking in pairs)             (Слайд 11)

-Now work in groups again. I hope you understand that you’ll work in pairs. I think 8 minutes will be enough for doing these tasks.

 

a) There are a lot of different people. Music is different too.

  • Read the problems statements on the blackboard. Make up short dialogues according to them. Work in pairs.

          - Pop music- the music of the young?

          - Classical music- the music of the older people?

A: - Hello! Where are you going to?

B: - Hello! I want to visit a music shop and look for some new discs of my

       favorite pop groups. What kind of music do you prefer to listen to?

A: - Mostly I   listen to music which depends on my mood. But sometimes I

       listen to dance music. Do you like pop music? Why?

B: - Yes, I do. I like it, because pop music is the music of the teens. The rhythms

       are full of energy and force. The melody is easily caught. We “get a drive” listening

       to this music, don’t we?

A: - ….M-m-m. The rhythms may be new and energetic, but they lack variety. It’s the

       same beat again and again. The melodies are mostly simple and as easily forgotten

       as caught.

B: - You are wrong. Pop music is nice. It attracts a lot of people. The words of the song

       are about the young people’s world: there hopes, dreams, sorrow and joys.

A: - “Tastes differ” my mother says. As for me the words of some of the song are

       absolutely senseless. But I respect your point of view. Good- buy.

B: - Buy.

B: - Hi…

A: - What’s up?

B: - Everything’s fine. And how are you?

A: - I’m happy today. Finally I’ve received CDs of classical music.

B: - Really? Do you like classical music?

A: - Yes, I do. I enjoy it. It’s a good rest after an ear attack of heavy rhythms. Are you a

       classical fan too?

B: - No, I’m not. I prefer folk. Do you know that many Ukrainians are gifted singers?

A: - Yes, I do. They are talented people. Do you listen to music in your free time? If

       you need some classical record, I’ll give you some with pleasure.

B: - O.K. Thanks.

A: - What style of music do you like?

B: - I prefer jazz or pop music. And you?

A: - I love classical music. Its good feeling and emotion. Pop music is just noise.

B: - As for me classical is the music of the elder people. But pop or jazz are the music

       today. What do you think about pop music?

A: - I think pop music is unhealthy music for us. Medical research has proved that the

       Sound produced by powerful amplifiers at some pop concerts does great harm to

       the nervous system. Less than 1% of young people buy jazz tapes and CDz in

       Ukraine.

B: - Really? What’s wrong with kids these days? I love jazz and I hate classical music.

       It’s boring and musicians wear old-fashioned clothes.

A: - Tastes differ. But before rejecting old rhythms, see if the new ones are really

       better.

5. Reading

-What do you know about classical composer?

  • Read the text about W. Mozart.

- Your part of the article has some gaps. Look at the gaps in your article. Put some questions to each other and find the missing information.   • Play a game “Tic and tac”. Ask each other about different types (genres) of music using these photos. Some of you can add interesting facts or information. Work in pairs.

(Gospel - is religious music sung in churches in the southern USA.)

  1. Who started “rhythms and blues” music?

(The black workers in the USA started “rhythms and blues” music.)

  1. When did country and western music start?

(Country and western music is the music of poor white Americans in the 1930s and 1940s.)

- It is still the most popular music in the southern USA.

  1. Which styles of music influenced rock’n’roll?

(The mixing of two styles “rhythms and blues” and “country and western” are result of “rock’n’roll”.)

  1. Where it was happening? or Where did it happen?

(It was happening in the USA.  or It happened in the USA.)

  1. What famous singers of “rock’n’roll” do you know?

(Elvis Presley is one of the famous singer of rock’n’roll in the world.)

  1. What was in 1968? Tell us, please.

(In 1968 music groups were all in “hippie” gear. The guitar became as important as the voice.

  1. Which style of music did Led Zeppelin develop?

(At the first: Led Zeppelin was one of the first groups of Heavy Metal. This style based on “rhythms and blues”, but with the instruments amplified so they are extremely loud.)

  1. Who made reggae music popular?

(Bob Marley made it popular.)

  1. Where did reggae music start?

(This music style started in Jamaica. It is a mixture of African styles and “rhythms and blues”.)

  1. When did rap music originate?

(In the 1980s, disc-jockeys in dance clubs began half singing and half talking over instrumental music – and “rap” music was born.)

  1. What does the world “blues” mean?

(Blues – is traditional black American music. “Blue” means “sad”, and many blues songs are about how hard life was for black people.)

  1. What do you know about new “House” music style?

(1990s dance music based on very fast rhythms and modern electronic sounds. There are now various sub-styles of “House music” such as “techno pop”, “trance”, and “jungle”.)

 

- O.K. I like your answers. Look at the blackboard.

- Do you agree with such statements?

***(P1.-No, I don’t. I have read that Americans doctors have found that 20 minutes of classical music is more effective than sleeping pills.

P2. - The doctors recommend pregnant woman to listen to classical music. Its useful for their futures babies.

P3. –In my opinion people are different and they can’t have the same musical tastes and enjoy the same music. )

III. Заключна частина.

1.Summarizing

- Music is a nice language. But there are as many different kinds of music as there different languages, and it impossible to describe them all.

-Take your multi-colored instruments and write your personal attitude. Answer the key-questions “What is music for you?”  Then fix your instruments on the blackboard to make a mind-map (the wall of answers).

-Read the statements of M. Luther:

 “Music is the art of prophets, the only art than can calm the agitations of the soul: it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents. God has given us.”

-Do you agree with it? Do you understand it?

 

-So, all pupils were active and tired to work hard at the lesson. Some pupils were brilliant….. get excellent marks. Some pupils have made some mistakes in their speaking, reading, writing. So….. get good marks too. Thank you very much for your activity at the lesson.
