Нестандартний урок-гра для учнів початкової ланки. Мета уроку - закріпити лексичний та граматичний матеріал по темі "Animals", розвиваючи в учнів навички говоріння, аудіювання, читання та письма, вживаючи звороти "There is...", "There are...". В уроці представлені вправи на вміння будувати альтернативні запитання та давати на них відповіді. Цікава Mind-map та Guessing game направлені на розвиток навичок говоріння, складання віршів англійською мовою, розвиваючи при цьому увагу учнів та логічне мислення. Розгадування кросворду та вставляння пропущених слів в лист допомагає розвивати навички аудіювання та письма. Всі вправи виконуються в ігровій формі, що мають конкурсний характер та дуже подобаються дітям.

LEVEL A-1

Topic: Animals

Objectives:

  • to activate the use of thematical vocabulary (animals);  to train and improve  pupils’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills;  to practice pupils’ communicative skills using constructions “There is…”, “There are…”, alternative question “Is it a… or a …?”; to improve pupils' pronunciation.
  • to develop pupils’ logical and critical thinking.
  • to develop the pupils' ability of using their knowledge in new situations;
  • to develop pupils' imagination and attention.

Learning outcomes:

At the end of the lesson learners will be able to:

  • use words and expressions related to the topic «Animals » in speaking;
  • use  constructions “There is…”, “There are…” in speaking;
  • improve their reading, listening skills.      

Equipment: Pictures with different animals, CD, computer, a letter, faces.

Procedure of the Lesson

I.INTRODUCTION

1.Greeting

2.Warming up.  

T: Hello, pupils! I’m glad to see you. How are you today? Take your “faces” and if you feel great – draw a smile; if you feel neither great nor bad, draw a face without a smile; and if you are sad and unhappy, draw a sad face.

Now show me your faces, please. Well, I see that everybody is happy so we can         start our lesson.

II. MAIN PART.

  1. Revising the vocabulary on the topic.

T: Children, look around, what do you see on the board, on your desks?

Ss: Animals.

T: Right. You can see animals and we will speak about them today.

What animals can you see on the board?   Try to guess. Is it a lion or a horse? 

Ss: It’s a lion.

T: Is it a zebra or a tiger?

Ss: It’s a tiger. (etc)

2. Writing and speaking.

T: Animals live everywhere. Let’s  make a mind map. Write the name of the animals according to their places of living. Let four pupils go to the board and do this task.

T: Very good. And now make the sentences using the table.

(Students are making  the sentences).

1. There are crocodiles  in the  river.

2. There are horses on the  farm.

3. There are camels  in the desert.

4. There are lions  in the forest.  (etc)

 

3. Listening

 

T: Well done. Now meet our guest. It is Neznaika. He says that he knows everything about animals and birds and  he  can easily  tell us what they can do and what they can’t. But I am not sure whether it is really so. Let’s listen to him very attentively and if you hear a mistake – clap your hands and correct the sentence.

 

  1. The elephant can hop.

S1: The elephant can’t  hop, it can walk.

  1. The parrot can fly.
  2. The crocodile can swim.
  3. The zebra can fly.

S2: The zebra can’t fly, it can run.

  1. The kangaroo can jump.
  2. The camel can run.
  3. The bird can run.

S3: The bird can’t run, it can fly or hop.

  1. The monkey can talk.

S4: The monkey can’t talk, it can jump from tree to tree.

  1. The cow can sing.

S5: The cow can’t sing, it can walk and run.

  1. The dog can jump.

4. Listening and writing

T: We’ve got a letter from the British girl Lisa. She wrote about her favourite  animal. Let’s read it. Oh, some of the words have disappeared. But I know what to do. Listen to me and try to restore the text.

(Children listen to the text and fill in the missing words)

T: Children, do you like to play computer games?  Now let’s play the game. Find unit 19 and do the first exercise.

III. HOME ASSIGMENT:

T: Write a letter to your pen-friend and describe your favourite animal.

IV.SUMMING-UP:

T: Well done, dear! Today you have worked very well and I liked your work. You were active; you have used many different words. The lesson is over. Thank you very much.
