В розробці уроку подані вправи на вживання займенників "some", "any", злічуваних та незлічуваних іменників, складання діалогів з "How many...?", "How much...?" при приготуванні страв.

LEVEL – A1

English and Home Technologies

Topic: Preparing Food. Recipes

Objectives:

  • to activate the use of thematical vocabulary (fruit and vegetables, food and drinks);  
  • to train and improve pupils’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills; 
  • to practice pupils’ communicative skills in group work  using pronouns “some”, “any”, countable and uncountable nouns;
  • to practice using new information about Ukrainian traditional food;
  • to improve pupils' pronunciation.

Learning  outcomes:

At  the end of the lesson learners will be able to:

  • use words and expressions related to the topic «Food » in speaking;  
  • use countable and uncountable nouns  in speaking; 
  • make up dialogues using questions “How many…?”, “How much…?”; 
  • improve their communicative skills.

Equipment: Oxford Team,1, pictures with different food, exhibition of culinary books, different food, napkins etc.

Procedure of the Lesson

I. INTRODUCTION

          1.Greeting.

2.Warming up.  

T: Good morning, everybody! I’m glad to see you. Today we are going to speak about food, different recipes, to read some poems and to cook different meals. What is your favourite food? What is your favourite drink?  Do you like fast food? Do you like cooking?   

    T: Students, let’s recite the poems.        

Breakfast in the morning,

Dinner in the day

Tea comes after dinner,

Then comes time to play.

Supper in the evening

When the sky is red.

Then the day is over

And we go to bed.

Humburgers and sandwiches

They are tasty food.

We like eating everything

And preparing’s good.

Make a cup of coffee,

Or a cup of tea.

Put a slice of lemon

And give it to me.

 

T: Do you like Ukrainian cuisine? What traditional meal do you know? The traditional Ukrainian food  includes  hot borsch, varenyky, kasha, mlyntsi, pyrohy.

Students, let’s use the words from the box to complete the sentences.

  1.            MAIN PART
    1. Revising the vocabulary on the topic.

T: Let’s revise lexical units on the topic. Complete the table with the words: bananas, carrots, chicken, pasta, biscuits, fruit juice, eggs, apples, beef, peppers, lamb, yoghurt, aubergine, milkshake, rice, potatoes, fish, bread.

(Students are doing the ex.2, p.56 in SB. Oxford Team, 1.).

2.Reading and writing practice:

T: Read the paragraph from exercise 3, page 56 in SB.  Change the pictures into words.

 

 Every year for my birthday, Mum cooks all my favourite things to eat. These are the things I like. I love … chicken  and I always ask for 1……аnd  2…..  with it.  There’s always  some special 3….., too.  After that, I like fruit salad with 4….., 5……. and _____6……  .  To finish I have 7…… with  a  cup  of  8……  to drink.

3.Group Work:

Preparing meals. Students are devided into groups and each group gets its recipe.

 

T: Students, read the recipes, please. But remember! Your opponent team has to guess the name of it while listening your recipe-poem. Try to read it clearly. Choose  the food you need and prepare your meal.

Salad

Take some eggs, potatoes, carrots

(They’re boiled already).

Peel and cut them into pieces

Put cucumbers maybe.

Add some salt and mayonnaise,

Don’t forget of onion, peas.

Sausage add some grams and mix.

Help yourself, my dear, please!

Sandwich

Take and cut some bread, my dear.

Put some butter on it.

Slice the cheese, if volunteer,

Or a sausage maybe.

Spread the cloth and put the plates,

Table napkins for each guest.

Give some coffee to these courses

Can I have a taste?

 

4.Brainstorming.

(While students prepare meals, they communicate in English.  Then each group reads the poem-recipe of its meal and opposite group guesses the name of it).

 

III. Summing up.

1.Home Assigment:  Project “My Recipe of Ukrainian Dish We Cook at Home”

2.Summary of the lesson.

T: Thank you for the work. Taste your meals.
