“Books in our Life”.
Aims:
Aids: cards with written kinds of the books, sheets of papers.
Procedure:
І. Introduction.
T: Good morning, dear friends! I’m glad to welcome you to our unusual lesson.
I think you know a lot about the world of books by now. Just enough to create your own book!
So, today you will create your own books (or maybe just a story for beginning). Yes, starting from the very cover of the book.
Step 1. Story creating.
Now you are to choose the literature genre you like most of all. So, you can see the cards with the names of the genres written on them.
A Detective Story
A Love Story
Science Fiction
A Fairy Tale
An adventure Story
The cards are on the walls of the classroom. So, you are to come up to the card you like. (Sts gather in groups).
So, our authors are ready. You may go to your desks and start your work. There you can see some sheets of paper. Those are the covers of your future books. I’m going to draw some squiggle on o your cover. You are to develop it into a picture. But this picture will be on the cover of your book, mind it. It should be connected with the plot of your story.
The you should answer the questions:
Who?
When?
Where?
How?
So, get ready and start your work. Then we will see whose story is the best. Let’s start. Good luck!
Step 2. Game “Auction”.
Another task which you should do today is to take part in our auction. You will buy sentences. But you are to buy only those which do not contain a mistake. So, you have got 100hrv. Your task is to buy as many correct sentences as you can. But the winner will be the team who has got more correct sentences and more money left.
So, our sentences are:
Step 3. Psychodrama.
There are three chairs in front of the class. When you sit on this chair, you are a teacher. When you sit on the next one, you are your mum. And at last, when you sit on this one, you are a teenager. So, you are to change your places and to speak on the topic “To read or not to read” on behalf of those people.
Possible answers:
Teacher:
I think children read very little. Or they even don’t read at all. They only play computer games or watch TV. That’s a problem!
Mum:
I think my daughter/son should read more. When I was a child, I used to read lots of books. I liked fairy tales, then adventure stories, and at last love stories. I’m still reading them.
Teenager:
My mum thinks I should read more. My teacher wants me to read those boring books. But I hate them! I don’t understand them very often! I spend a lot of time working on my computer. I think books should be electronic. Then we will save our trees from cutting down and help our planet!
Step 4. “Crosses and Noughts”.
And now we are to play “Crosses and Noughts”.

So, you are to divide into two groups. One group is “Crosses” another is “Noughts”. So, you are to choose a number and to make up a sentence with the word which is written next to the number. If your sentence is correct, you may put a cross/nought there. And so on.
Reflection:
T: So, our lesson is coming to the end. Today you’ve learnt how to create your own story,
You tried to act as a teacher, your mum and your contemporary.
And at home I want you to create a short fairy tale about a little book. You may start your fairy tale like this:
“Hello! I am a clever book. Once upon a time I was a little tree in the forest…
“ Hello! I’m a little tree. You are planting me. Thank you very much. I want you to remember how long it will take me to become a book.
Firstly, my friends and I will be grown by some people. Then…….. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
So, take care of your books. And help me and other trees to survive and give you oxygen to breath!
Lots of love.
Your favourite Book.
Well our lesson is over. I wish you good luck. See you next time.
