• Навчати учнів під час роботи з текстом знаходити певну інформацію.
• Навчати учнів висловлюватися за темою уроку, використовуючи текст та опорні твердження.
• Практикувати учнів у письмі.
• Відпрацювати вживання The Past Continuous Tense.
• Удосконалювати техніку читання.
• Розвивати комунікативні здібності учнів.
• Розвивати мовленнєву реакцію, увагу, мовну здогадку, креативне мислення.
• Розширювати кругозір учнів.
• Виховувати вміння співпрацювати з іншими людьми.
• Виховувати в учнів почуття взаємоповаги.

Equipment: copybook, textbook, HOs, pictures, tape recorder.

І. The beginning of the lesson. Greeting and aim.

1. Work with a poem.

We’ll continue talking about the importance of learning English. We’ll practise such grammar tense as Past Continuous.

Warming up

2. Drilling . Now let’s revise some sounds.

3. Work with the proverbs  and famous quotes.

Match each proverb to its translation.

4. Interview.

Why do you study English?

5. Watching a video.

   Choose the sentences connected  with learning English. Say the main facts about English.

Affordable     /  fun  /  less than 10% speak English as their native language /  the third most commonly spoken /the most popular second language / 2 billion people want to learn it or study it/ it’s a language of the Internet……

 

6. Listening Practice.

Now we’re going to listen to the text about Dorita and find out more information about her learning English.

Dorita is an English student at a school in Queens, New York City. Read and listen to her letter to her brother , Miguel.

7. Post-listening activity.

 Match each photograph with part of the letter. Read it.

 Mark the sentences true or false. Correct the false sentences.

2. She’s in Miami.
3. Dorita’s happy in New York.
4. She’s on holiday.
5. It’s a very big class.
6. The students in her class are all from South America.
7. Annie and Marnie are both students.

8. Grammar work. Now we’re going to revise the Past Continuous Tense. We form it with was/were and the main verb with the –ing suffix. E.g. I was writing a letter at 1 o’clock last Suturday.We use this tense for an action which was in progress at a stated time in the past. We do not know when the action started or finished.

What were these people doing at 4 o’clock yesterday? Make up sentences as in the example.

9. Work with a table.

Open your books at p.128. Find Ex. 26 You have some ways of studying  and practicing English. Which ones were you doing during the previous English lesson or as your hometask? Choose the activities.  1 variant – during  the lesson, 2 variant – outside the class.

Count. How many of these things were you doing during the previous English lesson?

 

10. Watching a video.

That’s very important to speak English correctly. We’re going to watch and listen to people talking English. Are they good at it? What do they have problems with? Complete the table.

11. Read a letter with recommendations about learning a foreign language. P.129

       Write out recommendations.

III. Home assignment: Your homework is to do Ex. 9 on p.78 in your workbooks. You have to write about your ways of learning new words in a foreign language, grammar material.
