Type: Combined lesson (speaking, vocabulary, listening/reading)
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
- use vocabulary related to travelling (transport, places, activities);
- talk about different ways of travelling and their preferences;
- practice speaking in pairs and groups;
- develop reading and listening comprehension skills.
Equipment:
* Flashcards or pictures of transport and travel destinations
* Multimedia (short video or audio about travelling, optional)
* Handouts (dialogues, vocabulary exercises)
* Interactive board / projector
Lesson Procedure
1. Warm-up (5 min)
Teacher shows pictures of different means of transport (car, train, plane, bus, bicycle, ship).
Students name them in English.
Quick question: “How do you usually travel? Which transport do you like most?”
2. Vocabulary Introduction (7 min)
Present new words on the board (e.g.: journey, trip, ticket, luggage, suitcase, sightseeing, abroad, seaside, mountains, camping).
Choral and individual repetition.
Short matching activity: words ↔ pictures.
3. Listening/Reading Activity (8 min)
Short text/dialogue:
“Tom is going to France by plane. He wants to see Paris and visit the Eiffel Tower. His sister prefers travelling by train because it is cheaper and more comfortable…”
Students read/listen and answer questions:
1. Where is Tom going?
2. How will he travel?
3. What does his sister prefer? Why?
4. Speaking Practice (10 min)
Pair work: Students get role cards (at the travel agency).
Example:
Student A: You want to travel to the mountains. Ask about transport and hotel.
Student B: You are a travel agent. ( Suggest options).
Then 2–3 pairs present dialogues to the class.
5. Grammar/Function Focus (7 min)
Useful phrases for travelling:
- I’d like to book a ticket.
- How much is the fare?
- What time does the train leave?
Mini-practice: Students complete short dialogues with missing phrases.
6. Reflection & Wrap-up (5 min)
Quick discussion: “Where would you like to travel in the future and why?”
Teacher writes students’ answers on the board.
Homework :
* Write a short paragraph (6–8 sentences): *“My dream journey”*.
* Use at least 5 new words from the lesson.
