Lesson Topic: Travelling round native town Pavlograd.

Lesson objectives: at the end of the lesson pupils will be able to practice vocabulary from the topic «Travelling», compare different things or places using degrees of comparison, speak about attractive places in our town, listen and understand facts about famous places.

I.1)Greeting (1 min)

T: Hello pupils! Today we’re going to visit the most beautiful place in the whole world! Can you guess what is it? Yes. It’s a place where we live. It’s our native town. Everybody know that there are a lot of places and buildings in Pavlograd.

2)Warm up (5 min)

 Т:I’d like you to have a competition who can name more. We’ll have three teams (3 rows).Use the structure «there is/are». Pupils do it in turn.

II.1) Listening

1. Pre-Listening (1 min)

T: Do you know that there is one mysterious place in our town? Look at the photo 1 and give me your ideas about it.

Possible answers: It’s a field. They are hills. There is grass. There are not trees. It’s a countryside.

2.While-Listening(3 min)

Mavrynskyy Maidan

The researchers claim that this formation is more than five thousand years old, but still no one can explain neither the origin nor the purpose of the strange configuration. Those who have been here say that this place has a special healing energy. Mavrynsky Maidan is interesting in its form – geometrically correct truncated cone with holes on its three tops.They are directed exactly to the East, the West and the South. According to some researchers Maidan is a kind of temple, which was found by our ancient ancestors. According to one version Maidan was a place for prayers and sacrifices. Others consider that Zaporizhzhya Cossacks used Maidan as a defensive structure. Popular is the version in which Maidan as a calendar and Observatory complex. They even talk about the mystical origin of the earth configuration. They believe aliens stopped beings to establish a contact with the humans. Amazing features of earth mounds in the Dnipropetrovsk region attract many curious travelers to the Pavlograd steppe. You won't see any birds here. There are no trees in this area. Between the hills water does not stay. From the sky Maydan resembles the image of a crab or spider. Some people say that it looks like a large turtle.

3.Post-Listening (3 min)

a)Write true or false (individual work with pair correction). Pupils work on their worksheets and then check their answers in pairs.

b) Pupils work in pairs. The task is  to make some notes about the Mavrynskyy Maydan into their copybooks (5 min)

2)Speaking

a) T: Let’s move to another attraction in Pavlograd – the river Vovcha. Let’s work in two groups.  You have 3 minutes to do the task. Look at the two photos ( photo 2 and 3 ) and compare them using the word combinations: clear water, amazing view, quiet romantic atmosphere, dark landscape, rough river, green grass, new bridge, nice walk. Pupils make sentences using degrees of comparison of the ajectives.    They  tell their sentences in turn.

b) T:Imagine that you are inviting your friends from the other countries to our town. Invite them to visit one of these places, describe them to foreigners. (9 min) Pupils describe pictures. (Groups are discussing and presenting their information to the others)

3)Reading(5 min)

Teacher encourage pupils to use their smartphones to search for the information about one of the famous monuments of Pavlograd. (Photo 4 and 5) Each of the group choose one photo and read the information from the Internet and write notes. Then they present the information to the other group which is writing notes about monument.

4) Project Making (9 min)

Pupils have paper sheets, markers and cut photos of the sights. Teacher asks pupils to make a guidebook for the travelers who want to visit Pavlograd. They work in the group of four. Then pupils of each group present their ideas.

III. Summing up (1 min)

T: I hope our sightseen tour was interesting for you. Now you know a lot of information about sights in Pavlograd and can tell your friends from other countries about them. Memorable things of our lesson are your guidebooks, which we are going to place in our classroom.

Pupils Activities

1. Tell as many sentences about your town as you can. For example:

P1:There are 2 swimming pools in our town.

P2:There is a railway station in Pavlograd….

2. Look at the photo (Photo 1). What can you say about it? Listen about this famous place in Pavlograd.

3. Do the true/false task in 3 minutes. Then check it with your partner.

4.Make some notes about the Mavrynskyy Maydan into your copybooks.

5. 6.You are making an article for the school newspaper about one of the monuments of our town. (Photo 4 and 5) The first group will work with the monument to Matviy Khyghniak and the second group will take the monument of Honour. You can use your mobile phones and the Internet to search for the interesting facts. Make notes and present other group your information.

7. Make a guidebook for the travelers who want to visit Pavlograd. Use the information from our lesson about all interesting places (pupils can see all the photos 1, 2, 3, 4, Present your ideas.
