This lesson is aimed at developing students' lexical and grammatical skills through integteted language learning. A special feature is the meaningful integration of the topic "Travelling" with elements of knowledge about the Solar system.

Travelling.

Topic:  Our beautiful world.  Comparative and superlative degree of adjectives.

Objectives:      To develop pupils’ 4 language skills.

                       To enrich pupils’ knowledge about universe.

                       To foster the desire to get necessary information,

                       get better acquainted with our world. To develop

                       pupils’ outlook. To practice vocabulary and

                       grammar on the topic. To develop pupils’ quick

                      reaction, attention, creative thinking.

by the end of the lesson pupils will be able to:

name the planets, countries

use lexical units on the topic

use comparative and superlative degree of adjectives

 

Materials:  Computers, presentation “Solar System”, handouts,

                   posters, tape, pictures.

PROCEDURE

1. Greetings.

- Good morning my dear pupils! Glad to see you in good health and mood! What’s up? What is new with you?  Today, we will speak about our beautiful world, universe, we will watch presentation “Solar System”, do grammar computer exercises and work in groups.

2. Warming-up:

- As I know, all of you like lexical games. That’s why before starting the lesson we’ll play the game “Galaxy, Earth, Water” in order to revise new words. (like “Snowballs”).

- Well done. At the previous lesson we practiced  using comparative and superlative degree of adjectives. Today we will develop our grammar skills through different activities too. And now our phonetic drill “Which land is the best?”

3. Lead – in: Main part of the lesson. Listening and speaking.

 a) - Work in groups. Ann is a leader of “the Sun’s group”, Maryna is the leader of “Star’s group”. You should coordinate and analyze work of groups. Now let’s do lexical exercise “Guess the words”. (HO1).

-Geographical quiz. (HO2).

Each team can get some points for true answers. This game is like “Brain ring”. Do you know this game? Good! Let’s start!

b) -Now, checking your homework. 1. Now, let’s revise how we form comparative and superlative degree of long and short adjectives.   2. Reading, translating and answering the questions. (HO3).

c) -Writing. (HO4).

-Have you ever used a telescope to look at the sky or watch an eclipse? You have got “Planet chart”. Use comparative and superlative to compare planets. But firstly, we will watch the presentation “Solar System”. It was made by our school leavers. This presentation helps you to do your writing work.

d)-Well done! Answer my questions, please.

-Is the Sun a planet or a star?

-What is the hottest planet?

-What colour is Mars?

What is the largest planet?
