Lesson goals:

Practical aims:

         to present and practice basic topic vocabulary 

         to motivate situational speaking activities

         to practice answering questions

          to practice Phrasal verbs

Developmental aim:

         to develop English learning motivation

         to develop students’ speaking and listening skills

Educational aim:

         to practice  students’ learning skills

         to practice  students’ skills of becoming independent and active learners

Learning outcomes:

 by the end of the lesson learners will be able to:

         to name  types of crime

         recognize these words among others

Еquipment: pictures, photos, sound recording, presentation, laptop, textbook  On Screen 3 (Virginia Evans-Jenny Doodly)

Procedure

  1.      Greeting and Aim             

 T:  Good morning, boys and girls. Nice to meet you at our lesson today. How are you?

 Ps: We are fine. Thank you.                                                                                                                                                                                     T:That’s nice. You’re in a good mood and we can start our lesson. Today we are going to speak about breaking the law.

   2)  Worm up

T: Draw the mind map and write the words that associate in your mind with “Braking the Law”

                                                           

                                                                                 


  1.      Vocabulary Practice   

a)

T: Look  at the pictures. In pairs, list the crimes from the most to the least serious. Which of them are pretty crimes? Compare with another pair.  

    

 

b) Complete the newspaper headlines. Use: break into, sets, caught, sprays, steals, exceeding, forging.

 

 


  1.      Writing (present/ practice phrasal verbs related to crime)
  •           Underline the correct particle.
  1. The robber got away for/with over a thousand pounds.
  2. The police said that the man tried to blow up/down a container.
  3. Earlier, he had tried to break off/ into an office building.
  4. I really hope he doesn`t get away at/with his criminal activity.
  5. Hopefully, someone will find him and turn him in/ out.
  •           Give Ss time to complete the task
  •           Give Ss the task to make up own s-ces with phrasal verbs and write them into the copybook.
  1.      Listening (to listen for gist)
  1.      Listen to two news reports. Which crime is each about?
  2.      Listen again. Who was involved? Where? What happened? Tell your partner.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  1.      Speaking (talk about a crime)

T: Think of a crime you have read about or seen on the news. Tell the class.

      Talk about type of event, place, time, what exactly appened.

  •           Allow Ss time to copy these headings in their notebooks and write notes under them.
  •           Ask various Ss around the class to resent the crime using their notes.
