Learning outcomes: by the end of the lesson the students will be able:
-to describe a person’s appearance;
-to speak about positive and negative sides of a character;
-to give definitions of the words;
-to work in pairs, speaking about the age;
-to translate the sentences into English.
Main social issue:
Equipment: a computer, a presentation, a picture, a course book ENTERPRISE -3 (Express Publishing)
I Warming – up
T: I am going to say a noun, and you are to name a proper adjective.
Hair, nose, face, lips.
S1S2: straight/curly; up-turned/hooked; round/oval; full/thin.
T: Make up sentences with new word-combinations:
a straight nose, curly hair, full lips,an oval face.
II Reading (checking understanding), ex.3 p.6
1.The students give definitions to the following adjectives:
Responsible – sensible and able to make good good judgements;
Reserved – unwilling to express your emotions or talk about your problem;
Self-centred – paying so much attention to yourself that you do not notice what is happening to other people;
Mean – not wanting to spend money or not wanting to use much of something.
2.The students answer the teacher’s questions:
Do you believe fortune tellers and horoscopes?
Does the shape of your lips can really say a lot about you?
What are you likes depending on your shape of lips?
3. Playing a game;
The students are divided into two teams. A representative from one team describe someone’s character, another team should guess who it is. Use the phrases:
The first thing you notice is his/her ……
Her/his best quality is ……
Her/his strongest point is …..
III Language development
1.Speaking about the age (ex.7 p.7)
The teacher explains the material, the students do the task.
2.Working in pairs;
S1 How old are you?
S2 I’m in my early teens.
S1 How old is your mum?
S2 She is in her late thirties.
3. The teacher asks the students to revise the vocabulary (using presentation) .
4. The teacher asks the students to describe a photo, and say what she looks like.
5. Translation of the sentences:
a) Мій друг дуже легко засмучується.
b) Йому не дуже подобається ділитися своїми речами.
c) Наш колега завжди висловлює свою думку, навіть якщо вона відрізняється від інших.
d) Я ще не проглядала свій гороскоп на сьогодні.
e) Приймати рішення швидко – її найкраща риса.
f)Джон – турботливий, з іншого боку, він часом буває неорганізованим.
