Holidays and holiday activities
AIMS: To review and learn vocabulary for talking about holidays and holiday activities
• To practice speaking and listening skills
• To enhance motivation and interest by sharing a meaningful object
• To encourage the use of present simple forms in a personalized context
Introduction
In this lesson learners talk about holidays and holiday activities. They initially meet vocabulary through a pre-lesson task, then they practice and extend the vocabulary through listening and speaking activities.
PRE-TASK
1. Ask the learners if they’ve ever been on a seaside holiday and brainstorm with a WordWeb other types of holidays you can have, for example camping, skiing, adventure, sightseeing, cruise, safari, theme park.
2. Elicit from the learners different activities you can do on holiday, Write the activities on the whiteboard or on a blank document . Elicit a physical action to represent each activity.
Now ask learners to identify any activities which can be done on more than one type of holiday, for example: have a picnic could be both a seaside holiday and a camping holiday activity
3. Task cycle
Directions: Holiday Time!
1) Get into three groups;
2) Follow the handout;
3) Present your holiday idea.
Timing: you have 10-15 min. to discuss your ideas
Materials support: paper, flipchart, felt-tip pens, a notebook for each group, a printer.
During task
Dear students! You are holiday planners! In groups choose a holiday that you want to have.
