Aims:

-to revise the vocabulary connected with the topic “Family”;

-to train in the usage of these words;

-to develop reading, listening, speaking and writing skills;

-to develop  the skills of critical thinking, cooperation;

-to develop pupils’ memory and imagination;

-to develop creativity and  communicative skills;

-to teach students to work together, in pairs and groups and reach a final goal;

-to widen pupils’  knowledge on the topic.

 

Learners will be able to:

-know family members;

-ask and answer questions about family members;

-to describe their parents, grandparents, sisters/brothers;

-think critically about the value of the family in their lives.

 

Formation of competences: foreign language communication; ability and desire to learn; communication; collaboration; critical thinking; information-communicative; information and digital competence.

Procedure

1. Getting ready for the lesson.

 

1. Greeting, setting aims.

Teacher: Good morning, my dear students! Nice to see you. Please, take your seats and get ready for lesson. Hope you are fine and ready to work.

 

Teacher: Great!  Today we will speak, play and work together. Firstly, look at the pictures on the board and guess the topic of our lesson. Yes, you right. Today we are talking about the families in general and our Ukrainian families.

So,  we will revise and practice the vocabulary, do different tasks, improve reading skills and practice speaking and writing skills.

2. Warm-up

Teacher: As usual, let’s start our lesson with a warm up activity. We will play the game and review the family members. Your task is  to read the sentence and to name the family member. https://www.baamboozle.com/game/361304

2. Main part of the lesson.

1. Vocabulary revision. (group work) Wordsearch.

Pupils, I give you the card you are to find the family members. You have 3 minutes for that. I see that you are ready. Let’s check. Please, exchange your cards and check if all the words are correct  .  You are great! Very nice job!

 

2. Reading . (group work)

Teacher: Dear pupils, you stay at your places and we continue to work in groups. The next task is reading. You will read the text describing the family and while reading, please, complete the sentences. Tell me please, what will you do? I think 5 minutes will be enough for you. Now, it’s time to check!

My name is Tim.I’m going to tell you about my family. I live with my  sister, mum, and dad. We live in London,  England.My dad’s name is Pierre. He’s from France, and he speaks English and French.  He works as a French teacher. He’s very tall and slim. He’s got short blonde hair and blue eyes. My mum’s name is Anna. She’s English. She’s of medium height, and she’s got long curly brown hair and brown eyes. She works at  the shop near  our  home.My sister Julia is 18 years old, and she’s got the same colour of hair and eyes as my father. She loves playing the piano and dancing. She’s very talented, and she would like to be a professional musician.I’ve got short blonde hair like my dad, but brown eyes like my mom. We all love playing board games together on Friday evenings, and we always order pizza. Our favourite game is Monopoly. Oh, I almost forgot…we’ve also got a pet cat, Snowball. She likes sleeping on me.

You have the example of description of the family.Your task is to write to complete the sentences about you family and present it to the class, using your family photo or drawing which you brought.I think 5 minutes will be enough.
