Тема уроку : Особливості святкування Різдва в Австралії.

 

Мета уроку :

практична  - формувати навички розпізнавання та розуміння граматичного явища Question Tags ;

-         розвивати вміння аудіювати текст, ігноруючи незнайомі слова;

 

освітня - поглибити знання учнів про способи святкування Різдва в англомовних країнах;

- розширити уявлення учнів про різноманіття традицій святкування Різдва в різних країнах світу;

 

розвиваюча - розвивати здатність порівнювати мовні явища рідної та іноземної   мов;

-         розвивати вміння працювати в парах та навички взаємоконтролю;

 

виховна  - формувати критичне ставлення до вчинків людей;

 - виховувати повагу до традицій корінного населення.

 

 

Обладнання : НМК « We learn English - 7», тематичні ілюстрації до теми «Christmas», магнітофон, IKT.

THE PECULARITIES OF CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS IN AUSTRALIA

 

 

 

OBJECTIVES:

-        to revise students’ knowledge on forming Question Tags (Short answers);

-        to develop students’ speaking, writing, listening and reading skills;

-        to develop students’ creative thinking;

-        to enrich knowledge about the ways of Christmas celebrations in English – speaking countries;

-        to teach cooperation in pair and group work.

 

 

EQUIPMENT: computer, slides, pictures, handouts, recording.

Хід уроку.

 

  1. Greeting.

Teacher: Hello, everybody. How are you today? (Pupils’ answers.)

OK, all of us are fine so I hope our lesson will be fine too.

 

 

  1. Warming up.

Teacher: Now we are going to solve a crossword. I wiil read the definition of a certain holiday. Your task is to guess its name. If you guess the name of the holiday from the first time – you will get 2 special points. If you guess it from the second time then you will get 1 point.

Teacher reads the definitions of a particular holiday (8 words). The task is to find out the name of the holiday using its definition. If the answer is right, the pupil gets 1point (after the 1st definition) or 2 (after the 2nd definition) points.

Teacher: Can you find the key word?

Pupils: Yes, we can. It’s “HOLIDAYS”.

Teacher: You are perfectly right. So we are going to speak about holidays, and about the pecularities of Christmas celebration in Australia. It is the topic of our lesson.

 

 

 

  1. Listening.

1.Pre – listening activity.

Teacher: Before doing the second task let’s remember what you know generally about Australia.

What facts do you know about Australia?

Using the map. (1 right sentence is awarded with special point).

      Suggested answers:

- Australia is situated in the southern hemisphere.

- The official language is English.

- When it is winter in Ukraine, it is summer in Australia.

- The capital of Australia is Canberra.

- Melbourne is the largest and the most famous city in Australia.

- People from different countries live in Australia.

- Australia is the only country which occupies the whole continent.

- Australia is one of the largest countries of the world.

 

 

2.Listening.

Listen to the people talking about Christmas celebrations in Australia and match the speakers (1-4) to the pictures (A-D).

Speaker3. Christmas tree in the supermarket.

Speaker4. Christmas tree market.

 

3.After – listening activity.

Pupils do matching activity individually. After doing the exercise pupils exchange their cards and check the answers of the partner. The teacher says and shows the answers and then the pupils give the marks. 1 correct answer costs 3 points.

Teacher: Let’s find out who scored 12 points? --- pupils

                                                                    9 points? ---pupils

Teacher says that the work has done well (or perfectly).

Teacher asks the pupils if the way of celebrating Christmas is interesting. Both teacher and pupils come to the conclusion that this holiday is worth of their attention .

Teacher suggests pupils to read the text about Christmas celebrations in Australia silently and then answer the questions (ex.3 p.58).

 

  1. Checking.

One pupil reads the question and the other pupil finds the answer.

Now let’s have a little rest and sing a traditional Christmas song.

 

  1. Speaking.

Task – compare two ways of Christmas celebrations using the table of exercise 4 p.58 (checking the hometask).
