TOPIC: IN THE ZOO

 

OBJECTIVES:

  • to revise the lexical units concerning the topic “Animals”;
  • to develop students’ speaking, writing, listening and reading skills;
  • to train and expand the usage of the language structure The monkey is brown;
  • to teach writing different shapes;
  • to make up sentences using the given example;
  • to teach cooperation in pair and group work;
  • to maintain the interest in learning English.

 

Equipment: computer, textbook “Quick Minds 2”, flashcards, personal tasks cards, chant recording.

 

PROCEDURE

  1. WARMING UP.

Singing a song “Hello, Friends!”

Teacher: Nice to meet you again. Today we are going to make an interesting visit. Look at the pictures and try to guess the place we are going to visit.

Pupils’ answers.

Telling the topic:  In the Zoo.

Yes, you are right. We are going to go to the zoo.

  1. LISTENING.

Text “In the zoo” (exercise 1 page 18).

Pupils listen to the text and then say the words.

Working with the flashcards.

Teacher shows cards to the pupils and asks the question “What is it?” and pupils answer “It’s a zebra”.

Then the next Question “What colour is the zebra?” and pupils answer “It’s black and white.”

Working in a Chain (Animals – zebra, monkey, crocodile, tiger, hippo, snake, parrot, bear).

Arranging the Animals (Flashcards) in alphabetical order.

 

  1. WRITING.

Text “What does the animal like?” ( exercise 1 page 19)

Pupils are given the cards. The task is to decide the name of the animal. Pupils listen and answer. Then one pupil go out to the blackboard and write the right name.

  1. RELAXATION.

Pupils go the blackboard and say the chant “Touch the Window!” They do it and show the object they name. They can do it twice.

Touch the window!

Touch the door!

Touch the cupboard!

Touch the floor!

Touch the bookcase!

Touch the wall!

Touch the board

And that is all!

 

  1. READING.

Teacher shows cards with the following words: triangle, square, circle, parallelogram, rectangle. Pupils try to read the words and choose the following shape. Pupils read these words with the help of their shapes. Then they describe the shapes and name their colours.

It is a triangle. The triangle is yellow.

It is a square. The square is green.

It is a circle. The circle is red.

It is a parallelogram. The parallelogram is blue.

It is a rectangle. The rectangle is orange.

 

  1. SPEAKING (DISSAPEARING DICTATION).

 Teacher shows pupils five cards with shapes. Then six pupils come to the blackboard and name the words. Then the other six pupils do the same task.

 

  1. SUMMING UP.

Teacher is making the summing up.

Hometask – to draw the different objects using different shapes.
