Theme: A visit to London

Objectives: 

  • розширити кругозір учнів
  • розширити іншомовну лексичну компетенцію учнів
  • розвивати в учнів кмітливість, інтелектуальну гнучкість, уміння орієнтуватись у потоці різноманітної інформації, робити узагальнюючі висновки
  • практикувати учнів у вживанні часових форм дієслів
  • удосконалити навички сприйняття на слух діалогу з метою розвитку фонематичного слуху
  • тренувати учнів у читанні
  • формувати позитивне ставлення до процесу навчання та отримання знань
  • виховувати повагу та інтерес до культурних надбань народу Великобританії
  • автоматизувати навички монологічного мовлення за темою уроку

 

Visual aids:  карта Великобританії, ноутбук, проектор, відео, роздатковий матеріал, ілюстрації "Визначні місця Лондона"

1. Greetings.

2. Aims of the lesson.

                 T: Dear pupils, we'll go on talking on the topic ''A visit to London''. today we shall have  an unusual lesson. We'll have a kind of a trip. How do people travel? You know, we often travel in our dreams. so we'll have an imaginary trip today. What is the dream-place of each English-learner? Of course it's the heart of Britain - London. 

3. Warming-up

T: So, let's imagine we are leaving for London. To make it easier for Londoners to understand us let's train our tongue. this song will help us.

We are flying in the air, and across the sea

We're going to a really nice place to have a cuppa tea

When we see their flag in the air

then we know we're near

Oh boy, I can't wait to get there

The people are so very nice and full of cheer

Oh boy, I can't wait to meet them

We will have, so much fun

when we are in London

Buckingham palace is great, it's worth the visit

4. Pre-watching activity.

T: Now you are ready for a trip. I'm sure you know much about London, don't you?

Ch: Yes, of course.

T: What facts do you know about this beautiful city?

P1: It's one of the largest cities in the world.

P2: There are 4 parts in London: the East end, the West End, the City and Westminster.

P3: There is a famous zoo in London.

P4: There are many sightseeings here.

P5: The Queen lives in Buckingham Palace

P6: There are many banks and offices in the City.

P7: It is an ancient city.

P8: The population of London is 7 million people.

P9: Trafalgar Square is the very centre of London.

P10: Downing Street is the residence of Prime Minister.

P11: There are many parks in London.

P12: St. Paul's Cathedral is a very beautiful church.

5. Introducing vocabulary

T: You're going to watch a film "A day in London". to understand the information in details, I'd like you to distinguish some words and phrases used in the video. So listen and repeat.

Go straight on. Turn right and go over the bridge. Then it's on your left.

6. While watching activity

T: O.k. You cope with this task very well. and now you're going to watch a film. After watching you must answer the questions. Here you have activity sheets. Please, while watching the video match the phrases.

T: Are you ready? let's check what you've done. Read your sentences.

7. Post-watching activity.(team game)

T: Nice of you! What famous places did you watch?

    let's play a game "Do you know London?" Please, organize yourselves into teams. A member of each team has to come up to me and take a card with a question. read the questions so that your rivals answer them. The team which has more points will win.

T: Great job! The winner of the game is.......

8. Physical Exercise

T:  Let's have  a rest and do some physical exercises. Stand up, please.
