Topic     He likes / She doesn’t like.

Aims      to create a possibility practice the present simple third person singular affirmative and negative, to practice listening for specific information, to practice likes/doesn’t like, to practice writing

Learning outcomes       by the end of a lesson students will be able to use speech      patterns  likes/doesn’t like, to talk about likes and dislikes,  to build  sentences

Equipment      food flashcards, animals flashcards, wordlist, worksheets with food images, video, PP presentation

Procedure

Warm up

  • Show animal flashcards to students and elicit the spelling.
  • Play game « What’s missing» by hiding one flashcard and eliciting students to name which card is missing.

Checking homework

Students have prepared the pictures of their pets beforehand

Presentation and new material

  • Show a picture of a boy and a girl

  • Point to the food flashcard and a girl and say “She likes bananas”  Show delight to emphasis the meaning
  • Do the same with a boy and say He doesn’t like fish and make a disgusting face
  • Write these sentences on the board
  • Elicit  spelling of these sentences

Consolidation

A game « Feed the monkey»

  • Ask students to join in two teams
  • Point to a monkey image and ask to feed it
  • Give students food flashcard and show delighted face as they trying to stick a flashcard onto the image of a monkey
  • Elicit students to spell  The monkey likes/The monkey doesn’t like

Match the words

  • Give students worksheets with food images

  • Give students a wordlist

  • Elicit students to match the names and images
  • Make a vocabulary at the separate paper sheet by sticking images and their names
  • Make children show their work to each other

Build the sentences

  • Give students a wordlist with such words : this is, likes, doesn’t like

  • Ask them to take their pet’s pictures they have prepared beforehand
  • Elicit students to make sentences about likes and dislikes of their pats. Start like this « This is Tom. He likes fish and meat. Tom doesn’t like peas and carrots»
  • Write down these sentences
  • Pupils take turns and read own sentences

Flashbacks

  • Ask student what do they like eating
  •  Elicit students to make an assessment of their work
  • Reward students with candies from « Who’s been good box»
