The theme of the lesson: Music

Objectives:

- to train pupils in listening;

- to practise new vocabulary;

- to practise grammar constructions in order to ask questions correctly and to respond them;

- to give new and interesting information about the life of the famous singer;

- pupils to be able to ask and answer questions logically and effectively;

- to teach to identify major concepts and ideas in speeches;

- to encourage pupils participate in both sides of an interview process;

- to help the pupil to deliver a clear, coherent oral presentation using information from the text;

  • to offer constructive feedback;
  • to organize pupils’ work to participate actively and effectively while assuming the roles of reporters and the singer;
  • to teach respect while working together during the lesson.

Type of the lesson: combined.

 

                           LESSON   PROCEDURE

Pre-listening activity.

Teacher: We can’t imagine our life without music. We listen to the music everywhere – in the bus, at home, when travelling, on the radio or TV. Today we are to speak about pop music.

  • Do you like pop music?
  • can we hear pop music everywhere?
  • What is your favourite pop singer?

I will read you a text, some biography facts of a famous singer. I will play some of her songs and you try to guess the name of this singer.

Teacher: playing the music

Pupils: trying to guess.

Teacher: Yes, right you are. I will read about Jennifer Lopez. But before reading, pay attention to some phrases/words you can come across in the text.

     My name is Jennifer Lopez. I was born in the Bronx to Puerto Rican in 1970. I have  two sisters, Lynda and Leslie. Speaking about my childhood, I remember me always climbing out windows, jumping off roofs. It was crazy, you know.

     I spent my entire academic career in Catholic school and I still pray regularly. I financed singing and dancing lessons for myself from the age of 16. Later on I was selected as a dancer for various rap artists' music videos, and was given a guest spot on the American Music Awards. Then I appeared on the short-lived television and played roles .

    When I was on the stage for the first time, I was very nervous. My first debut album as of a singer was at the age of thirty. The second album contained mostly remixes.

    By the way, I  own a clothing line, by Jennifer Lopez. The line includes different types of clothing for young women, including jeans, T-shirts, coats, belts, purses.

 On April 12, 2002, I  opened an elegant restaurant in California.

 As for my personal life, I have been married three times. But now I’m happy.

Post-listening activity

One of the pupils will imagine herself as Jennifer and will retell the text, telling the biography. The other pupils will imagine themselves as reportes and their task will be to ask as many questions as possible.
