- активізувати лексичні одиниці теми;

- розвивати навички монологічного й діалогічного мовлення;

- розвивати ерудицію учнів;

- виховувати дбайливе ставлення до природи та усвідомлення важливості охорони довкілля

І. The beginning of the lesson. Greeting and aim.

Good morning, dear pupils!

I am glad to see you! What is the weather like today?

Are you ready for the lesson?              What day (month, season) is it?

T: Today you’ll get to know facts about the celebration of the Earth Day; and you’ll remember and practise vocabulary on the topic, too.

Warming up

T: First of all, let’s practise the following sounds.

Pre-reading task

T: Answer the questions:

• Have you ever heard about the Earth Day?
• When do people celebrate the Earth Day?
• Should  we observe this holiday?

Earth Day is always observed on April 22.

Former U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson was the Earth Day’s co-founder. The first Earth Day was on April 22, 1970. Senator Nelson got the name after reading about San Fransisco’s Earth Day celebration which was held on March 21, 1970.

Take notice of the planet Earth. Take care of the environment.

International Earth Day is said to be the original Earth Day and celebrated on the March equinox (March 20-21). The UN peace bell is rung three times to mark the day and a minute of silence is followed. John McConnell was the founder of Earth Day and was supported by UN Secretary-General U Thant. The first International Earth Day celebrated on March 21, 1971.
