Theme: Travelling.

Objectives:

  •          to develop student`s speaking and listening skills;
  •          to develop student`s communicative skills;
  •          to develop student`s creative thinking;
  •          to develop student`s skills in pair and group work;
  •          to practice topical vocabulary;
  •          to practice grammar.

                    Procedure

1.Introduction.

Good morning, boys and girls! I am glad to see you. Today I am your teacher of English. I am Hanna Semenivna. Let`s introduce ourselves in such a way.

Ex. I am Hanna Semenivna. I am honest. I am hardworking. And you.

How do you feel yourselves today? I am well. What about you?

2. Warming up.

I see. You lovely students. You are hard-working and intelligent. Let`s say our motto of our lesson.

                             We are hard-working,

                             We learn English hard,

                             Without  any doubt

                            Achieve the result.

And now I have a nice poem for you. Look at the screen. You see the words and your task is to complete the lines with rhythmic words.

 

  

I see. You are real poets. Thank you for your job.

And now tell me please what is the theme of our lesson today.

                            Travelling

You are right. So the theme of our lesson is Travelling. Today we`ll have one of the most interesting lessons because it is the lessons when we can sum up all our knowledge about travelling. Today we`ll play different games. We are going to practice grammar (Present Perfect or Present perfect Continuous).

3. Main part.

a) Game “Magic Bag”

Here is a magic bag. Trere are many questions in it. Your task is to take one of the questions, read it and answer it.

  1. Have you ever travelled?
  2. Do you like travelling? Why?
  3. Do you travel a lot?
  4. Do you prefer to travel with your parents or with your friends?
  5. Which way of travelling do you choose?
  6. What`s your favourite way of travelling?
  7. Have you ever been abroad?
  8. What means of transport do you know?
  9. What countries would you like to visit if you had a chance?
  10.  What kind of transport do you prefer?

 

b) Mind Map.

Defining means of transport. Guess the means of transport by their definitions.

  1. It is the fastest way of travelling. It can take you from one town or city to the other one in no time. The seats are comfortable. That`s a pity but sometimes you can see very little from the windows. The things are small to see them. When the weather is rainy or foggy you can not travel by it. (plane)
  2. This way of travelling is fast. You can stop at any place you like. You need no tickets. Usually families travel by it. ( car)
  3. This is the slowest way of travelling. Both young and old people like it. The only thing you need is a rucksack. You can visit many places in such a way.  ( on foot).
  4. This way of travelling is fast. The carrages are comfortable. It is so pleasant to travel in them. You can make a long journey on land by it. ( train).
  5. It is a large mean of transport that carries passengers from one town to another, and it has a fixed route and stops regularly to let people get on and off. (bus)
  6. It is a large boat that carries people or goods by sea. (ship)
  7. It is a mean of transport which has two wheels but it does not have an engine. ( bike)
  8. It is a bicycle which has a small engine. (motorbike)

Speaking. Let`s talk about the pros and cons of travelling by means of transport. Use the following adjectives to describe different means of transport. Put the following adjectives in the chart.

5. Reading.

Look at the screen. There are halves of the proverbs which are jumbled there. Make up proverbs. Then read the following text and fill in them with a proper proverb.

Read the following texts and fill in them with a proper proverb.

Many people travel nowadays. They go to the railway station, the port or the airport in this country or abroard, buy tickets and go to any place they want. They see many places of interest,meet new people. But they always remember their home, the place where their family and friends live.Only at home a person can feel comfortable  and safe. That`s why people say, “……………”

 

    Text 2

Travelling is very popular nowadays. People can travel to lots of places, meet lots of different people from different countries. They can travel by plane, by train, by ship, by bus and by car. But it is more important to like the place you live in, to have real friends there. So, if a person like everything with all his/her heart ,it is his/her home. So, they say, “…”

In each of the sentences below, underline the detail that is not mentioned in the passage.

6.Relaxation pause.

Let`s  play a bit. If you hear a mean of transport, clap your hands. If you hear a jobs of people which connect with travelling, stamp your feet.

A plane, a lorry, a car, a pilot, a ship, a bike, a train, a driver, a sailor, a ferry, a biker, a steam ship, a van, a cyclist, a scooter, a bicycle, a boat, a helicopter, double decker, a conductor, a captain.

7. Practice grammar. Present Perfect and Present Perfect Continuous.

a) revising.

Look at the screen. We have the presentation of Present Perfect and Present Perfect Continuous.

  •          How do we form the Present Perfect Tense?
  •          How do we form the Present Perfect Continuous Tense?

Let`s do some tasks.

      b) Ball Game.

I`ll give you a ball and tell the sentence in Present Perfect. And you`ll return me a ball and tell this sentence in Present Perfect Continuous.

  1. I have already read the book.
  2. My mother has just cooked the dinner.
  3. Tom has already come back from Italy.
  4. She has already spoken on the phone.
  5. I have just watched the film.
  6. They have just done their homework.
  7. He has already played tennis.
  8. Kate and Ann have just watered the plants.

8.Discussion club.

Let`s divide into two groups and be ready to discuss different situations using phrases (I think, I agree, I know, To my mind…..)

  1. Are you keen on travelling? They say a travel enriches a person. Do you agree with the statement? Why ?
  2. You are going on a long journey by train. Who would you like to share the compantment with:- talketive young woman;

                                    -a person of your age but very self-confident.

  1. What do you think of the following statements “He that travels far knows much a new country, a new world”
  2. Your friend wants to go to the Black Sea coast in November. What would you advise him?

9.Dream Holiday.

Imagine that you`ve won a lot of money in a competition. Plan an interesting trip around the world with your partner.

The first group- France (suitcase);

The second group- the Crimean Mountains (rucksack).

I`ll give you two sheets of paper. One – with suitcase, the second one- with rucksack. Your task is to write what things do you need for your trip? And explaine why do you need them.

10.The Dream Tree.

Look at the blackboard. We have a tree of our dreams. I`ll give you a leaf for everybody and you`ll write down your desire which consists of such questions:

  •          Where would you like to travel?
  •          What things do you need for trip?
  •          With whom do you want to travel?

11.Summing up.

You`ve worked well. Everyone was very active today and I thank you for yur work.

Homework .
