  • What are you going to write? (an email expressing your opinion)
  • Who is going to read it? (an English-speaking friend Tom )
  • What should you include? (my opinion, mentioned equipment, cost and danger)
  • How many words you should write ? (50-100 words)
  1. . Writing (CB ex.4 p.74)

  6. To me basketball is fun to play because playing in a team is very enjoyable.
  7. In my opinion , cricket isn’t very exciting as the pace of each game is quite slow.
  1. Useful language

-Look at some remarks which are useful for your email.

Suggested Answer key:

Opening : You said you’re thinking of taking up either sailing or basketball. Well, I think you could choose either of them.

-Let’s look at the structure of your email.

  1. Word order  (CB ex.5 p.75)

-Put the words in the correct order. Remember that the first is subject, then we put the object and after that we use all the rest parts of the sentences.

  3. In my opinion, swimming can be a lonely activity.

  1. Writing practice

-Your English-speaking friend, Tom, can’t decide which sport to take up: swimming or snowboarding . He wants to join a swimming club and asks for your opinion. Write an email telling Pedro what you think (50-100 words).

- Use the plan to help yourselves and the email skeleton as a model.

Suggested Answer key

Hi Tom,

You asked me my opinion about which sport you should choose, swimming or snowboarding. They both are challenging sports.

Swimming is a great way to keep fit and it’s not expensive as you don’t need a lot of equipment but you may have to practice for  long hours.

Snowboarding is thrilling and a good form of exercise , but the equipment is very expensive and it can be dangerous .

To me, both sports have good and bad points. You should choose the one you like the most . Let me know how you get on.

Mary

III . The final part of the lesson

  1. Checking the emails

-When you finish the email, check it. Does it contain:

  1. Appropriate opening/closing remarks?
  2. Well-structured paragraphs?
  3. Correct grammar / spelling  punctuation?
  4. Informal greeting/ ending?
  5. Your opinion with reasons?
  1. Hometask

-Read the dialogue and fill in the correct word (A/B/C) ex.2 p.73 at home.
