4 Healthy Habits for Your Family

Healthy Habit #1: Learn About Farming

It's important to learn  where the food comes from, and encourage  kids to be curious about farming. It is  necessary to go to local farmer's market to  to buy  fruits, vegetables or eggs. If you have the time and space, try growing a garden - even just herbs or tomato plants in pots  can teach a child about farming and eating healthy.

Healthy Habit #2: Go Outside

Make sure your family spends time outside as much as possible. Go on a bike ride, hike near your house, , make a garden or simply walk together after dinner. It will make you feel energized, less tired, depressed or lazy. The benefits of being outdoors are endless, so make it a regular habit for you and your family.

Healthy Habit #3: Avoid the Bad Stuff

A healthy diet is probably the first step towards a healthy lifestyle. You and your family should cut back on salty and sweet foods, and foods that are high in fat. Keep the trips to the fast food restaurant for special occasions only,

Healthy Habit #4: Drink Water

Finally, drink more water. Water should be  family's first choice when it comes to drinking. Fill your bottle of water and carry it with you during the day, and make sure you drink plenty of water during the day.

7. Song

T.: I`d like you to sing the song “Champions”. It`s a hymn of champions. But it doesn`t mean that hymn of champions we should sing for people who go in for sports. It`s a hymn of healthy nation and healthy generation. So, let` s sing it, because we are Ukrainians and we are proud of our country! .

III. Summarising

  1. Home task ( Slide 15)

 Food Pyramid

  •                              Dairy: the foods in this group are excellent sources of calcium, which is important for strong, healthy bones. Not many other foods in our diet contain as much calcium as dairy foods.
  •                              Fruit :fruit provides vitamins, minerals, dietary fibre and many phytonutrients (nutrients naturally present in plants), that help your body stay healthy.

Vegetables, legumes and beans: vegetables should make up a large part of your daily food intake and should be encouraged at every meal (including snack times). They provide vitamins, minerals, dietary fibre and phytonutrients (nutrients naturally present in plants) to help your body stay healthy.

  •                              Grain (cereal) foods: always choose wholegrain and/or high fibre varieties of breads, cereals, rice, pasta, noodles, etc. Refined grain products (such as cakes or biscuits) can be high in added sugar, fat and sodium.
  •                              Lean meats and poultry, fish, eggs, tofu, nuts and seeds: our body uses the protein we eat to make specialised chemicals such as haemoglobin and adrenalin. Protein also builds, maintains, and repairs the tissues in our body. Muscles and organs (such as your heart) are made of protein.

The most wholesome food is vegetables, fruit and cereals. We need to eat them every day. It is good to eat some avoid eating too much salt and sugar. It is better to use honey instead of sweets and cakes. However, the main thing is not to eat too much. There is an old rule: one must feel a little bit hungry after the dinner. Don’t eat late at night even if you want.

The Food Guide Pyramid, developed by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), is an excellent tool to help you make healthy food choices. The food pyramid can help you choose from a variety of foods so you get the nutrients you need, and the suggested serving sizes can help you control the amount of calories, fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sugar or sodium in your diet.
