Halloween    Party

Мета: виховувати та підтримувати у школярів мотивацію до оволодіння іноземною мовою; розширити знання учнів про культуру країни, мова якої вивчається; формувати лінгвокраїнознавчу компетенцію школярів; розвинути в учнів логічне мислення та пам'ять; виховувати бажання вивчати англійську мову

Characters: Compere, Pumpkin, Three Ghosts, Black Cat, Zombie , Three Ghosts, Gypsy.

It  is a nice holiday for children and teenagers in Great Britain and America – Halloween. It’s on the 31 (thirty-first) of October. In the evening boys and girls put on different old and funny clothes. People put pumpkins on the window-sills. They cut out eyes, noses and mouths on the pumpkins and put candles into them. So the pumpkin looks like a face.

The children go from house to house and knock at the doors. They say:”Trick or treat”. People ask them to come into their houses and give them sweets, fruit, cakes and other tasty things. This is a nice gay holiday, isn’t it?

“Halloween” means “holy evening” – the evening before the Christian holy day of All Saint’s Day. But it is even older than Christianity. Hundreds of years ago in what is now Great Britain and Northern France lived the Celts. They celebrated their New Year on the first of November. People believed that on the thirty-first of October ghosts of dead people came back. To scare the ghosts people dressed like devils and were very noisy.

At night on October, 31st witches fly on their broomsticks, you can see ghosts, Jack-O’-Lanterns walk around houses, black cats play tricks with us.

The symbol of Halloween is a pumpkin, which is called Jack-O’-Lantern. A burning candle is put inside. Black and orange are the traditional Halloween colours.

The Irish legend says that there lived the man whose name was Jack. He had played jokes on devil and could not enter the hell. He could not enter the heaven because he was a miser. He begged the devil for a coal to light his way out of the dark. He put the coal in a turnip and is still wondering around earth with his lantern.

Compere: Many, many years ago three witches lived in a dark, dark forest in a horrible hut. Sometimes they liked to steal children.

(Three witches appear on the stage singing)

WHAT WITCHES DO

The witches don their pointed hats,

The witches croak and croon;

The witches ride their broomsticks,

Away beyond the moon.

The witches don their flowing cloaks

The witches stir their brew

The witches chant their magic spells,

All the darkhours through

Yet when the first faint daylight comes,

The witches hide away.

 

 

Witch1. Oh, I don’t wish to eat children. I’d like cook some pumpkin porridge.

Would  you cook it?

Witch 2. Don’t  be so nervous. I’ll cook something tasty for you!

Witch 3.Where is out black cat?

Black Cat: Oh, I am here. I am a black cat. The weird old witch is my companion.

SONG

Black cat, Black cat, is looking for a witch.

All around the night is as dark as pitch.

You can see because your eyes are green.

Black cat, Black cat, this is Halloween!

Witch 1. Where were you? When we need you, you are never found.

Witch2. Have you forgotten Halloween is coming!

Bring us a pumpkin.

Black Cat. Take your pumpkin. Leave me alone, don’t trouble me .I’m going to make fun with my friends.

(The cat left ,a clock begins to strike )

Witch 1. Ok .Where are worms ?And grass?

(Music starts)

Witches 1,2,3, ( the witches are singing and throwing everything they name in their song into the cauldron.)

WHITCH WITH A CAULDRON

In the cauldron boil and bake

Eye of newt and toe of frog

Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,

Adder’s fork, and owlet’s wing

For a charm of powerful trouble

Like a hell-broth boil and trouble,

Fire bum and cauldron bubble.

Witch  2. It’s time to call the guest. Black cat, come to us , have an eye  on the cauldron.

(Witches left , but Cat sits near the cauldron)

Compere : Today  is the eve of the 31 October. It is the day of all devils. They wake and gather for a great celebration.

(Pumpkin appears  from the cauldron)

Pumpkin. Oh! What’s this? This is Black cat. It’s awful!

I can’t escape. I should think of a plan. Oh! I know!

(Pumpkin starts singing)

 TWINKLE, TWINKLE, LITTLE STAR

Twinkle, twinkle, little star

How I wonder  what you are!

Up above the world so high,

 Like a diamond in the sky.

When the blazing sun is gone,

When he nothing shines upon,

Then you show your little light,

Twinkle, twinkle, little star

(CAT  HAS FALLEN ASLEEP. Pumpkin is dancing)

Pumpkin. I am round, I’m fine!

Fall down the ground and ‘’Good-bye’’!

Now try to catch me! You cannot!

I like to have fun and be merry a lot!

Compere. Round Pumpkin rolls, suddenly he meets a zombie!

Zombie. Who has Awoken me?

Pumpkin. It’s me.

Zombie. As you have already noticed, Iam an unhappy zombie with a pale face.

I am neither alive nor dead. I’m a real walking dead body.

Now I will eat you because I haven’t been eating for many years.

Pumpkin. Don’t eat me I’ll sing a song for you/

Zombie: Stop it.i hate your song! But where are you? How dear you escapes?

(Zombie runs way. Pumpkin appears.)

Pumpkin.  I am round, I’m fine!

Fall down the ground and ‘’Good-bye’’!

Now try to catch me! You cannot!

I like to have fun and be merry a lot!

Compere. The song is sung by round PUMPKIN  and cunning one jumps on the road. Suddenly Mummy  appears from pyramid.

Mummy. I am an ancient Mummy, as you see. My clothes are a white as snow, thouh a  little biit dirty because so many centuries have passed.

Pumpkin .I am a round Pumpkin.

Mummy.I’ll catch you , my dear, one, two, three…

Pumpkin. Eat me or let’s dance with me.

Mummy. OK. Now we’ll dance

( They begin to dance and Pumpkin escapes)

Pumpkin.  I am round, I’m fine!

Fall down the ground and ‘’Good-bye’’!

Now try to catch me! You cannot!

I like to have fun and be merry a lot!

Compere. He laughs at Mummy is merry a lot and goes away and meets a Ghosts on his way.

Ghost1. A flash of white in the darkness, who-oo-oo?

Hoots the owl  on the post.

Ghost 2.A creack and groan,

A squeakcand a moan. Ooo—oooo!!

Ghost 3. Comes the howl-   It’s a ghost!!

(Ghost are dancing)

Pumpkin. What a strange creatures are there? I have to run away because they can eat me.They are terrible!              It’s strange .

 

( They are singing a song)

 WE THREE GHOSTS

We three ghost of Halloween are

Scaring the kids who wander too far

Trick or treating, candy eating

Watching for the Halloween Star.  Oh- oh!!

STAR OF DARKNESS, STAR OF FRIGHT

Star of every gruesome sigh.

Let us play some trick tonight!!!

(Pumpkin escapes)

Ghost1. Where is he? Where has he disappeared?

Ghost2.

We’ll find you and beat and frighten to death.

(Pumpkin appears)

Pumpkin.  I am round, I’m fine!

Fall down the ground and ‘’Good-bye’’!

Now try to catch me! You cannot!

I like to have fun and be merry a lot!

Compere. He laughs at Ghost and goes away.At once he meets a Gypsy girl on his way.

Pumpkin. What a strange girl! I head she can foretell the  future for everybody who withes. Let’s foretell future for you!

Pumpkin. Yes.

Gypsy. So, I see….

 

(All heroes of the play appear and try to catch and eat Pumpkin.They are  singing a song together.
