Teacher:
Good morning!
Pupils:
Good morning, teacher!
Teacher:
Sit down, please!
Spring has come. Nature is awаkening from its long winter sleep. The snow smelts and little streams flow merrily. Then the fields and meadows are dressed in green. There are small buds on the trees. Everything is green, fresh and new.
Now is winter, but we can imagine this picture. In this day very many years ago W.Shakespeare was born...
Teacher:
You have read about W.Shakespeare at the lessons of Foreign Literature. Let's speak about this famous writer. I have some questions for you and you answer, please:
- What is William Shakespeare? (William Shakespeare is one of the world's greatest writer.)
- When was he born? (He was born in Stratford-on-Avon, a small English town.)
- Where did William study? (He studied at a grammar school.)
- What was he fond of at school? (He was fond of English folks songs and ballads.)
- Why did William have to go to London? (Because his father became poor and William went to London to work there.)

- What did he become later on? (He became an actor.)
- What did he found? (He found a theatre himself and the name of that theatre was “The Globe”.)
- What works by Shakespeare do you know? (“Romeo and Juliet”, “Hamlet”, “King Lear”, “Twelfth Night”, “Othello”.)
ІІ. ОСНОВНА ЧАСТИНА УРОКУ.
Teacher:
I want to show you a little film about William Shakespeare. Look at the screen, please.
Teacher:
You have listen in the film about sonnets of William Shakespeare. I prefer read and translate some of them: sonnet 25, sonnet 116 and sonnet 130 and compare with the translation in Russian language by S.Marshak.
W.Shakespeare. Sonnet 25
Let those who are in favour with their stars
Of public honour and proud titles boast,
Whilst I, whom fortune of such triumph bars,
Unlook'd for joy in that I honour most.
Great princes' favourites their fair leaves spread
But as the marigold at the sun's eye,
And in themselves their pride lies buried,
For at a frown they in their glory die.
The painful warrior famoused for fight,
After a thousand victories once foil'd,
Is from the book of honour razed quite,
And all the rest forgot for which he toil'd:
Then happy I, that love and am beloved
Where I may not remove nor be removed.
***
W.Shakespeare. Sonnet 116
Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come:
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.
***

W.Shakespeare. Sonnet 130
My mistress’ eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red than her lips’ red;
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.
I have seen roses damasked, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks,
And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.
I love to hear her speak, yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound;
I grant I never saw a goddess go –
My mistress when she walks treads on the ground.
And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare
As any she belied with false compare.
***

Teacher:
I want to present you a little part of the text “Romeo and Juliet”.
Romeo saw Juliet for the first time at a ball in the Capulet's house. For a Montaque to enter the house of a Capulet meant mortal danger because those families had quarreled with each other. Romeo put on a mask and went to the Capulet's ball. He was sure that no one would recognize him. It was at this ball that Romeo and Juliet met for the first time. They fell in love with each other. After that ball Romeo's thoughts were full of Juliet. He wanted to see her again, to learn if she loved him too. So at night he climbed over a high wall and got into to the orchard, which was under Juliet's window. Romeo called Juliet to her window. Juliet answered him readily for she also had fallen in love with him. She was ready to give her heart to Romeo. His name and his family were of no importance to her.
Teacher:
I have some questions for you. Please, answer:
- Where did Romeo see Juliet for the first time? (At the ball in the Capulet's house.)
- What did Romeo put on when he went to the Capulet's ball? (He put on a mask.)
- Was he sure that no one would recognize him? (Yes, he was.)
- Who fell in love with each other? (Romeo and Juliet did.)
- Did Romeo want to see Juliet again? (Yes, he did.)
- Where did Romeo get into? (He climbed over a high wall and got into the orchard, which was under Juliet's window.)
- Was Juliet ready to give her heart to Romeo? (Yes, she was.)

Let those who are in favour with their stars
Of public honour and proud titles boast,

Unlook'd for joy in that I honour most.
These words were written by William Shakespeare some centuries ago. It seems me these words one of the greatest and most famous writers of the world had written about himself. But an English dramatist Ben Jonson said: “He was not of an age but for all time”.
