Stage notes

1. Warm-up (5 min)

  • Ask: Who’s your favourite singer or actor? Do you like pop music? Point at the photo on page 14 and ask what he is doing.

  • Pre-teach awesome (= very, very good). Say it with a big smile so it sticks.

2. Video, Part 1 (5 min)

  • Only one question: is Lee a big fan of Bro? Play the video once. Ask the student to say how they know.

3. Dialogue (8 min)

  • Read the dialogue in pairs (you and the student), then swap roles.

  • Task 4 focuses on five natural phrases from the “Out of class” box. Then the student re-acts the dialogue using their own favourite singer instead of Bro.

4. Grammar discovery (8 min)

  • Let the student find the questions in the dialogue first (Task 5), then complete the rules (Task 6). Ask: what happens to the verb after does? Stress that there is no -s after does.

  • Pronunciation: does /dʌz/, doesn’t /ˈdʌznt/. Yes/no questions go up in intonation.

5. Controlled practice (8 min)

  • Task 8: the student finds Bro’s answers in the dialogue.

  • Task 9 is Exercise 5 in the book. The student writes the six questions, then watches or listens to Part 2 and writes the answers. If time is short, do the questions now and the answers for homework.

6. Speaking (9 min)

  • Task 10 (Exercise 6 in the book): interview about a favourite actor or pop star. Task 11 (“And You”, Exercise 7): ask about the activities and write down the answers.

  • Finish with Who am I? (Task 12): the student picks a job card, and you ask yes/no questions to guess it. Then swap roles.

7. Wrap-up (2 min)

  • Exit ticket: three questions, one with Do, one with Does, one with How often. Then the self-check. Give the optional homework.
