My Birthday Party

Objectives: by the end of the lesson students will be able to

  • revise vocabulary on the topic;
  • develop communicative skills using the active vocabulary;
  • develop their writing and listening skills;
  •  work cooperatively in pairs and groups.  

Equipment: a computer, the Internet recourses, a projector, Power Point Presentation, handouts.

                     Procedure.

I. Introduction

T: Good morning, good morning,                                                                                     The best to you this morning.

 How are you? How are you?

I hope you feeling fine

And happy all the time.

T: Birthday is such a wonderful day for everybody! Many people like to celebrate it. On this day you are in the centre of attention. You can spend time with your parents, friends and relatives and get a lot of presents. People like their birthdays because of the presents, too. On this day you can always hear «Happy Birthday!"

II. Warming up. An interactive technique “Merry-go-round”.

T:  Let’s find out when your classmates were born. Share your cards with the pupils who were born in the same season as you. I’d like you to form two circles – inside and outer. Pupils of the inside circle should stand facing the pupils of the outer circle. The pupils of the outer circle “rotate” clockwise so that everyone has a new partner to ask and answer the questions.

So, pupils with the cards of the same colour team up. Let a group with blue cards be called “Winter and Spring celebrants”, and a group with green cards - “Summer and Autumn celebrants”.

II. Main Part. (Group work).                                                                                                1. Vocabulary revision. Group “Winter and Spring celebrants”:

2. Writing.

 

3. Focus on grammar. T: Everyone enjoys the party very much. During the party we can do a lot of interesting things. Use modal verbs can/ can’t : We can play …but we can’t…

 

4. Speaking. Interaction

Memory Tray. What you Have: Household items, tray, and scarf. 

Rules: Collect recognizable objects (shell, block, toothbrush, etc.) and place 7-10 on a tray (less objects for younger kids). Have children view the tray. Place a scarf over the tray and remove an object. Have children name the missing object. Child who names the object can remove the next item. Repeat until all kids have had a turn.
