Some ideas you may use for celebrating St Valentine's Day

Про матеріал

Valentine's Day has been associated with love and affection. With a day that takes over many aspects of life, it seems only fitting to include it in your classroom.
Use Valentine's Day as a way of showing friendship and fondness in your classroom. Put up red and pink balloons, construction paper hearts, fresh or fake flowers. Create a festive mood in the room. Have students write things they love on paper hearts and stick them on the walls.

Use Valentine's Day as a way of showing friendship and fondness in your classroom. Put up red and pink balloons, construction paper hearts, fresh or fake flowers. Create a festive mood in the room. Have students write things they love on paper hearts and stick them on the walls.

Here are some ideas you may use for celebrating this romantic holiday

Broken Hearts
Cut 6" heart shapes out of poster board or heavy paper. Write antonym on both halves of heart (i.e. in/out; up/down; good/bad; dark/light; hot/cold; day/night; large/small; wet/dry; left/right; etc.). Cut hearts in half. Laminate halves if possible.  Place heart halves on table face down. Students must match halves to mend the broken hearts.

Valentine Pop

This Valentine’s party game requires balloons (helium or air-filled) slips of paper with verses on them, scissors and string. Before the kids arrive, tuck one “love” themed verse in each balloon. Fill the balloons and tie them to strings. Invite kids, one at a time to pick a balloon, pop it and read the verse inside. (Be prepared. Some children may not want to pop their balloon. That’s okay. You can send them home.)

Friendship hearts

With cut out heart shaped pieces of paper, students can write compliments about their classmates to hang above their desks. This is a good activity to teach about kindness.

Red hot

Using a stuffed heart or red balloon, play this game like the classic Hot Potato game. Have players sit in a circle and pass the heart until the music stops. The player left holding the heart when the music stops is out. Keep passing the heart until only one player is left.

Candy count

Fill a glass jar with conversation hearts or candy kisses. Have each child guess how many hearts are in the jar. The student with the closest guess wins the jar of candy!

On the 14th of February people send a Valentine’s card to the girl or boy they like.

Sometimes people write a poem, too.

Look at these poems and feel in each gap with an adjective from the box. Remember that  the poems must rhyme.
