Learning Objectives:

1.      Students will explore different types of books available today.

2.      Students will discuss their reading habits and preferences.

3.      Students will practice vocabulary and phrases related to books and reading.

4.      Students will develop critical thinking skills by comparing traditional and digital books.

Lesson Outline

I.        Warm-up (5 minutes)

•       Activity: Book Title Brainstorm o     Write the word “BOOKS” on the board.

o    Ask students to name as many types of books as they can (e.g., novels, comics, biographies, etc.).

o    Write their responses on the board and briefly discuss.

II.     Presentation (10 minutes)

•       Topic Introduction: Types of Books Today o           Use a short PowerPoint presentation or visual aids to show examples of traditional and digital books.

o    Discuss different genres of books: fiction, non-fiction, fantasy, mystery, self-help, etc.

•       Vocabulary Activity:

o    Introduce key vocabulary related to the topic (e.g., author, publisher, e-book, audiobook, genre, bestseller). o     Provide example sentences for each word.

III.  Practice (15 minutes)

•       Activity 1: Pair Discussion o Provide guiding questions: § What’s your favorite book or genre?

§  Do you prefer traditional books or e-books? Why?

§  How often do you read, and where?

o    Encourage students to share their answers with their partners.

•       Activity 2: Role Play o          Assign roles: “Bookstore Customer” and “Bookstore Assistant.” o The customer asks for book recommendations based on their preferences. The assistant uses the vocabulary to suggest books.

IV.  Production (10 minutes)

•       Activity: Compare and Contrast o      Divide the class into small groups. o Each group creates a simple Venn diagram to compare traditional books and e-books (advantages, disadvantages, common features).

o    Groups present their diagrams to the class.

V.     Wrap-up (5 minutes)

•       Reflection Question:

o    Ask students: “If you could write a book, what would it be about?” o          Allow a few volunteers to share their ideas.

•       Homework: o             Write a short paragraph about your favorite book or why reading is important to you.

1.      PowerPoint slides or printed visuals

2.      Handouts with vocabulary words

3.      Whiteboard and markers

4.      Paper for Venn diagrams
