Procedure
Before the lesson |
Download and make copies of the worksheets you need for the lesson. Cut each game worksheet into 12 separate cards. Then shuffle each set of cards so that they aren’t in order. |
1. Warmer (10 minutes)
|
Tell Ss to close their books and write the word Genius on the board. Explain that this is the name of a BBC programme and give Ss a few minutes in pairs to discuss what they think happens in the programme. Invite each pair to share their ideas with the class. |
2. Check homework (10 minutes) (Exercise Book, page 27) |
Ask the class to do a quick survey in groups ranking exercises (Exercise Book page 27) from the most to least difficult, the most to least interesting, the most to least useful etc.. Use student feedback to decide which exercise to correct together first and then give exercises ranked by the majority as the least interesting/difficult on OHP/power point as above to speed up the correction process. This ensures that students will be more alert during the correction of what they perceived to be the most problematic areas of their homework. |
3. DVD PREVIEW (15 minutes) (Speak Out page 64, ex1A,B) |
Direct Ss to the statements. Then give them a minute or two to read the text and decide in pairs if they're true or false. Put Ss into pairs or small groups and tell them to think of at least one benefit and drawback for each of the ideas. As well as deciding on the most 'genius' idea |
4. DVD VIEW (10 minutes)(Speak Out page 64, exercise 2A,B,C) |
Focus Ss on the questions and play the recording. You could pause the recording just after the 'piano choir' finishes singing and ask Ss to predict whether the idea will be judged 'genius' or not, then play the rest of the recording for Ss to see the decision. Ss discuss their answers to the questions in pairs, then with the class. Put Ss in pairs and give them a few minutes to discuss the tips. As you play the recording again, Ss call Stop! when they see Dan doing/not doing something on the list of tips. |
5. Speakout a business idea (15 - 20 minutes) (Speak Out page 65, exercise 3) |
Ss should aim to make their presentation about two to three minutes long. They also need to give their product a 'catchy' name and think about how they could use visuals in the presentation, e.g. a picture of the product. a graph showing sales forecasts. etc. While Ss prepare. circulate and help with vocabulary. etc. Ss could draw a table and make notes about their product in the first column, then complete the second column while they are listening to the presentation in the next stage. |
6. Grammar (15 - 20 minutes) (Exrcise Book , page 28) |
Give students lots of sentence halves and in pairs they try and match the beginnings and ends of the sentences |
7. Homework (5 minutes) |
Ss write an advertisement for another product from the lists they looked at in Ex 3A. |
