Хід уроку:
Good morning, students! I’m glad to see you! How are you today?
Let’s start our live online-lesson. As you see, today we’ve got the new unit – «Job hunting». Let’s discuss the meaning of the unit title. (In English, job hunting is often used to mean actively looking for a job. The unit will look at ways of finding a job.)
How do you think what are we going to talk about? (відповіді учнів)
Yes, we are going to talk about jobs and careers, about personal qualities and unusual jobs. Moreover, we’re talking about obligation, prohibition and advice using modal verbs.
So, open your exercise-books and write down the day, date, class-work and our topic. (Wednesday, the 28th of April, «Jobs and work. Unusual jobs»)
By the end of our lesson you’ll be able to:
I think it’s a really important topic, especially for you, as teenagers. You are finishing our vocational school this year, you are just in the beginning of your life and you have to think really carefully about your future career, because your life actually depends on it. It depends also on your choice of what you will do to earn money for your living or to have more fun, or maybe you’ll be able to combine your hobby and your career.
II. Main part. Основна частина уроку
Presenting vocabulary. Представлення лексики.
So, before we start, we need some Vocabulary. Let’s do it in such a way.
Let’s remember the names of the professions (учні дають назви відомих професій). Thank you. OK, pupils, let’s move on!
Speaking
Look at the 4 photos and try to name the jobs you can see.
Take a look here (ex.1, p.84) - What are the jobs in photos a-d?
Listening and Speaking
Let's find out more!
How do you think what job is it? (Vocabulary tool)
Listen and repeat, please. (ex.2,p.84 – track 41)
At the previous lesson I asked you to learn some more words using online-service «Quizlet». I hope, you are ready with them (продемонструвати).
Let’s look at the Personal qualities in ex.5, p.84. You have to complete the sentences with the words from the box. Focus your attention on the example sentence.
Listening
Now listen to four people describing their jobs. What jobs do you think they are? (ex.6, p.84)
Do you know what is the difference between job and work?
Job and work have the same meaning. Job is countable and work, in most cases, is uncountable. Therefore, work rarely comes after a or a number, and it is rarely used in the plural.
Pre-reading
Focus your attention on the photos. Can you predict what the text might be about?
Skimming and scanning Reading for global and specific information (Timer)
Read a message board about three people who have unusual jobs. Match each person with the correct photo.
(Key: A-Ryan O’Connor, B- Grace Simmons, C- Gavin Henderson)
After-reading
True/False activities
Do ex.2, p.85 Read the text again and decide if the statements are True (T) or False (F) (Timer)
Speaking and Discussion
Think! Do you agree these jobs are important for society? Why? / Why not?
Work with «Macmillan Online Dictionary»
How do you think what do the underlined words in the text mean? Guess and then check in «Macmillan Online Dictionary»
Watching. Grammar in context (Flipped classroom). Граматика в контексті (Перевернутий клас)
Before the lesson I have set the Flipped classroom video and tasks as your homework.
Let’s watch about Grammar with Dave Spencer.
(video)
Do ex.1a, p.86. Point out that most sentences are from the text you have read. (Time)
Do ex.1b, p.86. Which sentences express obligation, no obligation, prohibition and advice or recommendation?
Do ex.1b, p.86. Which type of word comes after must, should…
(Key: 2 a, 3 d, 4 c, f; a verb in the Infinitive without to)
Draw your attention to the silent letter «I» in «should».
Look at ex.3, p.86. Your task is to use should and shouldn’t to give advice to these people. Use the pictures to help you.
Do ex.4, p.86. Choose the correct alternative.
