Lesson topic:  Sport in Ukraine

Outcomes: By the end of the lesson learners will be able to ask and answer about sports; play a guessing game to remember the lexical set; to remember the new words.

Materials: cards to the song, song (You Tube),  cards for game, presentation.

Procedure

Warm up

  1. Greeting
  • Good day! I’m glad to see you!
  • All are present today?
  • Get ready for the lesson.
  • Today we are going to discuss kinds of sport you like or don’t like. You  will play games, do crossword, work in pairs and develop speaking skills.

 

  1. Game “Find the partner”

You like playing football. Find out who has got a ball.

You like cycling. Find out who has got a bike.

You are fond of running. Find out who has got a stop watch.

You play table tennis. Find out who has got a bat.

You go rowing. Find out who has got oars.

You are fond of playing tennis. Find out who has got a racket.

You go swimming. Find out who has got goggles.

You like playing hockey. Find out who has got a stick.

You have got a ball. Find out who likes playing football.

You have got a bike. Find out who likes cycling.

You have got a stop watch. Find out who is fond of running.

You have got a bat. Find out who plays table tennis.

You have got oars. Find out who goes rowing.

You have got a racket. Find out who is fond of playing tennis.

You have got goggles. Find out who goes swimming.

You have got a stick. Find out who likes playing hockey.

  • Each of you get the card. You should move and ask the questions to each other and find your partner. The winners will be the first three pairs.

Introduction

  1. New vocabulary. PB p.76
  • Open your books on p.76.
  • Look at the vocabulary box. Listen to the new words which I’ll read and try to understand.
  • Athlete is a sportsman who does athletics.
  • Coach is a man who trains the sportsmen; trainer.
  • Field is a land area free of trees, buildings; open space.
  • Stadium is an area where sport events are held.
  • Famous is known by many people; worldwide.

 

  1. Writing
  • Write these words into your vocabularies.
  • Repeat after me.
  • Read in a chain.

Practice

  1. Speaking. PB p.76 ex.1
  • Divide into pairs. Ask and answer the questions. Then you should tell your partner’s information.

 

  1. Presentation
  • Look at the presentation and do some interesting tasks.

  1. Musical relaxation

(Prepare word cards – sport names, song “My favourite sport” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-jqYXMBFzA)

Word cards: archery, judo, basketball, gymnastics, ski, skateboard, tennis, golf, run, cycle, football.

  • Now musical activity for you. You’ll listen to the song and get the cards.

  • If you hear the sport which is on your card – stand up and show your sport word. Be attentive!

 

  1. Speaking “Blitz Interview”. PB p.76 ex. 2
  • Now you are going to answer quickly on the following questions.
  • Divide into two teams. Read the questions in a chain and respond. For correct answer you’ll get 1 point.
  1. Guessing game. PB p. 77 ex.3
  • Let’s play a game. The instruction you can read in your books.
  • 1 pupil comes in front of the class. The rest of the pupils ask him/her questions in order to find the name of the sport. Who will guess – change the place.
