Christmas Party

Dear guests! We are happy to see you today. We are going to celebrate Christmas.

 

Narrator 1. Christmas! A moment of magic in all our lives. It is a special time when we wish you and your families love, health and happiness. And lasting peace throughout the world.

 

Narrator 2. Americans celebrate Christmas on the 25^th of December. As you know, Christmas is a religious holiday. Families come together to share their happiness, attend church, exchange presents.

 

Narrator 1. The Christmas story comes from the Bible. It tells us an interesting story of shepherds who were watching their sheep when the angel appeared to them. He told them that a Savior was born in Bethlehem.

 

Narrator 2. The shepherds went there to see Jesus. The baby Jesus was born in a stable. His mother was Virgin Mary and his father was Joseph.

 

Narrator 1. The Bible tells us how the Wise Men followed a star until it led them to Jesus. The Wise Men gave Jesus many gifts. Because of the birth of Jesus Christ , the Christians celebrate Christmas.

 

All. You are welcome to see our Christmas play.

Scene I

( Zechariah is in the church)

Storyteller 1. In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah.

 

Storyteller 2. Zechariah had a wife Elizabeth. They had no children, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both well along in years.

 

Storyteller 2. Once when Zechariah’s division was on duty and he was serving as priest before God.

 

Storyteller 1. He was chosen by lot to go to the temple of the Lord and prayed.

 

Storyteller 2. Then the angel appeared to him and said……

 

Angel 1. Do not be afraid Zechariah, your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John. He will be a joy and delight to you and many will rejoice because of his birth.

 

Zechariah. How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.

 

Angel 1. I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you good news.

 

Scene II

( At Zechariah’s house)

 

Storyteller 3. When he came out, he could not speak to people.

 

Storyteller 4. When his time of service completed, he returned home.

 

Storyteller 3. After this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant and for five months remained in seclusion.

 

Elizabeth. The Lord has done this for me. In these days he has shown his favour and taken away my disgrace among the people.

 

Storyteller 4. In the town Nazareth there lived a virgin who was to be married to a man named Joseph. The virgin’s name was Mary.

 

Storyteller 3. The angel went to her and said ….

 

Angel 2. Greetings, you who are highly favoured! The Lord is with you. Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favour with God. You will be with the child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be called the son of the Most High.

 

Mary. How will this be since I am a virgin?

 

Angel 1. The Holly Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holly one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month.

 

Mary. I am the Lord’s servant. May it be to me as you have said.

 

Storyteller 4. At the time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Scene III

( Mary and Elizabeth )

Elizabeth. Blessed you are among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favoured, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the babe in my womb leaped for joy.

 

Mary. My soul glorifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices God to Abraham and his descendants forever, even as he said to our fathers.

 

Storyteller 3. Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home. When it was time for Elizabeth to have her babe, she gave birth to her son.

Song “Silent Night.”

Silent night, holy night;

All is calm, all is bright.

Round you Virgin Mother and Child.

Holy Infant so tender and mild,

Sleep in heavenly peace,

Sleep in heavenly peace.

Shepherds quake at the sight,

Scene IV

(The birth of Christ)

 

Storyteller 5. In those days Caesar issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.

 

Storyteller 6. And everyone went to his own town to register.

 

Storyteller 5. So Joseph also went to his the town of Nazareth to the town of David.

 

Storyteller 6. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.

 

Storyteller 5. While they were there, the time came for the babe to be born, and she gave the birth to her firstborn, a son.

Song ”Hark! The Herald Angels Sing!!!”

Hark! The herald angels sing,

“Glory to the newborn King!

Peace on earth and mercy mild,

God and sinners reconciled!”

 

Joyful, all ye nations rise,

Join the triumph of the skies,

With th’angelic host proclaim,

“Christ is born in Bethlehem!”

 

Hark! The herald angels sing,

“Glory to the newborn King!”

 

Storyteller 6. And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.

 

Storyteller 5. An angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. The angel said to them...

 

Angel 3. Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you, he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sing to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.

 

Storyteller 6. Suddenly shepherds and tsars appeared with the angel, praising God and sing.

 

Shepherds. Glory to God in the highest!!!

 

Tsar 1. Joy to the world! The Lord is come!

            Let earth receive her King.

 

Tsar 2. What child is this, Who, laid to rest

             On Mary’s lap is sleeping!

             Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,

             While shepherds watch are keeping?

              This, this is Christ the King;

              Whom shepherds  guard and angels sing!

 

 

 

 

Tsar 3.   Where is the newborn

               King of the Jews?

               Angels we have heard on high

               Sing the Christmas lullaby

               Sing of Peace, Sing of Joy

               Sing of the newborn babe boy.

               Jesus, Jesus is His name

               The world will never be the same.

               He’s the Son God sent to earth

               All hail to Him and His glorious birth.

 

Storytellers 5,6. Let us all remember

                              That the little Christ  Child’s birth

                              Was the beautiful beginning

                               Of God’s Plan for Peace on Earth!!!
