We’re glad to see you here .Hope, you’ll like the words, which you’re going to hear today. Maybe some of them, mentioned here, are known to you.
But we’d like to show you the beauty of poetry and we’d like you to feel the power of the words. The person who feels the poems with their heart is always kinder, more patient and as optimist, believes in beauty. Poetry is like music. Maybe some of you don’t like to read poems, but we do. And that’s why we decided to bring only small piece of it to you.
P1:Let’s start.
Life is a gift. We can’t be sorry for living in this world. We should enjoy living in it. We think that wisdom of life lies in living it in full swing.
P2:American and English literature is very rich.
We know many famous names such as Shakespeare, Byron, Mark Twain, Kipling and others.
Some our pupils have prepared short poems of famous English writers. The poem “My heart’s in the Highlands” by Robert Bums, is known, I think, all over the world.
He sings of the beauty of Scotland where he spent all his life. He admires “the green valleys, mountains high covered with snow, and wild hanging woods”

P1:Rudyard Kipling is an English writer. He wrote many wonderful poems and tales, short stories about India, children’s stories about animals and some books on history. In 1907 Kipling was awarded the Nobel prize for literature. He was the first writer and the first Englishman who was awarded this prize.

P2:William Shakespeare is one of the world’s greatest writers. He wrote the plays for the theatre, many sonnets and poems. The best Shakespeare’s works, written hundreds of years ago, are very popular nowadays. They
are translated into many languages and they are read and loved by the people all over the world.

P2:American colonists were people who respected the Indians. One of them is Henry Longfellow. Listen to his poem “The Arrow and the Song”.

P1:A patriotic song “God Bless America” by Irving Berlin has been considered America’s unofficial anthem, since “The Star-Spangled Banner” has difficult lyrics and a difficult tune.
