Welcome to London!!!It is the best place in the world.

London is situated upon both banks of the River Thames, it is the largest city in Britain and one of the largest in the world. Its population is about 7 million people.

Trafalgar square is a very famous square where on New Year's Eve people gather to celebrate. At midnight people jump into the fountains fully clothed and enjoy themselves.

In the middle of the square there is a very famous statue "Nelson's Column" which is over 170 feet high. The statue on the top is in memory of Lord Horatio Nelson who won the most famous sea battle at Trafalgar. Trafalgar Square has become famous as a rallying point for all kinds of demonstrations, marches and political meetings. Some people say it is the most beautiful place in London.

It is a square in the central part of London, where we can see people of many nationalities. The popular place is Piccadilly Circus. Piccadilly Circus is the meeting point of six streets. London’s famous restaurants and best-known theatres and cinemas are on Piccadilly Circus.

London is very rich in museums and art galleries. If you are fond of painting you'll go to the Tate Gallery.

There are about 300 oils and 19000 watercolours and drawings

The British Museum is the largest and richest of its kind in the world. The present building was built in 1852.

This collection is so vast that only a very small percentage of it is on show to the public.

Buckingham Palace. Buckingham Palace is the official residence of the Queen.

Buckingham Palace has 600 rooms, a swimming pool, a cinema, a ballroom, a nuclear cellar and a garden, which is like a private park. In summer the Queen gives three garden parties for about 9,000 guests.

Buckingham Palace has the “Changing of the Guard” in front of the palace every morning at 11 o’clock.

The Houses of Parliament. The Houses of Parliament in London, known also as the Palace of Westminster is the place where members of Parliament gather to make laws.

Westminster Abbey. It is the traditional place of coronation and burial site for British monarchs and other famous people of England.

Big Ben. The Clock Tower with the biggest bell is known as Big Ben. The tower is 96.3 meters high. It weights 13 tons.

The Tower Bridge. It is close to the Tower of London, which gives it its name. It has become an iconic symbol of London.

Tower. The Tower of London has been a fortress, a palace, an arsenal, a mint, a prison, an observatory, a zoo, the home of the Crown Jewels and a tourist attraction. The Tower’s greatest treasure is the Imperial State Crown. There are 2 800 diamonds on it. The quards of the Tower are called Beefeaters. The legend says that if the ravens leave, the Tower and the country will fall.

St. Paul’s Cathedral. St. Paul’s Cathedral is a famous building too. Prince Charles and Princess Diana married here in 1981.

Double-deckers. There are big red buses called double-deckers in London. People sit upstairs and downstairs on these buses. Tourists like them very much.

Taxis. Taxis in London are old-fashioned black cars.

Telephone booths. From here you can call your friends.
