Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace is the most famous British royal home. It’s the Queen’s official home.

When the Queen is at home the national flag on the top of the palace is flying.

Buckingham Palace was built in 1708.

54 years later, King George III bought it. Then in 1837 Queen Victoria made it the home of her court.

Buckingham Palace stands at the end of a long boulevard called the Mall.

It has 600 rooms, 400 staff and 300 clocks.

Buckingham Palace is like a small town with a police station, two post offices, a hospital, a bar, two sport clubs, a disco, a cinema and a swimming pool.

There’s also a balcony at the front of the palace. This faces the Mall and it’s where the Royal Family appears sometimes a year.

The Changing of the Guard is a very popular British tradition. It takes place in front of the palace and starts at 11.30 every day.

One group of soldiers replaces the group already guarding the palace.

There is always music during the ceremony.

There is a beautiful garden behind the palace.

There is also The Queen’s Gallery in the garden.
